How to prepare for nursing school??!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello,

Nursing School acceptance letters will be mailed on Monday of next week. Hopefully, if I get in, I was wondering what can I do to get prepared for the first semester? What subjects should I do a quick overview on? A&P? Dosage Calculations? Pathophysiology?

Any Help?

I've heard reviewing a & p is good to do, as well as dosage calculations. Personally I kept all my anatomy notes and will be keeping my physiology notes for the program.

Thank you for taken time out to respond! Ok, I will make note of this.

Honestly, just rest, lol. Sleep late, spend some quality time with your family and friends. I can't think of anything that would really help you prepare (other than finding out the first few chapters that you will have to read).

Thank you for taken time out to respond! Ok, I will try my best to relax. (YIKES)

Rest for a few weeks.. then go over test taking skills. Nursing school test is way different from the tests we've taken for prereqs. There're multiple right answers but which one is THE BEST one. Made my first B (in foundations) with horrible grades that I've never gotten before. Other than test taking skills, we had reviews for A&P in the beginning of class that corresponds with the lecture so studying A&P before wasn't really needed. Pathophysiology comes very handy for your clinicals though and the care plans you'll be doing so brush up on that.

Good luck! :)

Thank you for taken time out to respond! This is very helpful. God Bless you!

Oh saw too late that I already answered your post in another one. I forgot to mention for the test taking skills.. search for Test Taking Strategies for Nursing. I don't know the title but my friend bought a book similar to that title and she said it was very helpful.

Thank you so so much!

I just finished my first semester. I'd say... just rest. Take naps. Watch TV. Spend time with your family, your friends, drink wine, enjoy yourself. Pretty soon you won't be able to enjoy that as much anymore :)

Every nursing program is different, but for mine, I guess reading up on patho would have helped, especially on things like diabetes, congestive heart failure, COPD... maybe review medications that you'll see a ton in clinical, like morphine, dilaudid, lasix, lovenox, insulin... read nursing care plans, see what they are, what common nursing diagnoses are and their interventions. Good luck to you.

I start too end of jan and this is my plan. I figure we won't have time to do leisurely things after we start so I will relax and do fun things now while I can!!! I also plan on doing a little nursing related reading as well though.
