How much math is used in an intro to chemistry class?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I am almost done with my prereqs for an ADN program. I just need the sciences. A/P, Microbiology and chemistry. I am super intimidated by the chemistry class. Never touched the subject in HS. My school offers 2 "intro" classes, 051 and 065. The 051 is what is needed to get into nursing school. I accidentally signed up for 065. They said you need Intermediate algebra to do well in that class. I passed with a C, and this was several years ago so I am pretty sure I have forgotten many of the concepts. Should I drop this class and try to take 051 next year? I really don't want to fail any of my science classes. Or just try to power through the class. Another thing that bothers me is that I am basically in class all day. I know when I am in nursing school with rotations you are up all day but I think that's diferent you are actively working.

I was thinking of taking intermediate algebra again and trying to brush up on chemistry with Kahn academy or Straighterline.

You do a lot of conversions in chemistry. Which is really important in nursing, especially once you get to pharmacology and have to do dosage calculations. Also, making both sides of the equation equivalent, which is just basic math. Also, you'll be given an equation and you basically just plug the given numbers into the equation and solve. It's not really anything super challenging. But a background in algebra would really help. And it really does help you a lot once you get into nursing.

As said above, you need to be able to convert between metric as well as imperial units. You'll probably be able to use a calculator, but you'll still need to understand the concepts... It's not too intensely math-y.

My school required a corequisite math class for chemistry. I felt like it was similar to an intermediate math class and wasn't really needed to pass the chemistry class. Like the other two posts, you will need to do conversions and my book provided all I needed to know. The math was very basic.

It's a lot of conversions and you use basic math while balancing equations but it's nothing too crazy!
