How competitive is your school of choice?

Just curious to see how competitive everyone's school of choice is? Thought it might make for an interesting post :wink2:

For me, the current university I am at is open admission, but their nursing program is competitive base. There are 10 pre-req classes, but only 5 of them (Math, Eng, Chem, Bio and Nutrition) are evaluated for the GPA standing to get in. The school also takes into account what a student gets on his or her TEAS test. Last semester, I believe that somewhere around 300 students applied for approx 40 spots into the program. The average GPA was 3.87 and the average TEAS test score totaled up to about 89%

Another school in my area has usually less than 150 students apply for anywhere from 48 to 64 spots, but they take into account your total GPA, not just a few classes. The most current info I could find was from 2005, but at the time the avg GPA acceptance was 3.81

My third choice for school only requires a C or better in all pre-req classes and then you are put onto a waiting list. At this time, it looks like the wait is about 2 years out. Main reason this is my third choice, because its supposed to have a really nice program!

my first school of choice isn't too bad, only a 3.4 cutoff. my second choice, ub in upstate ny (if i decide to stay in ny it will be my first choice) is very competitive. they look at your cumulative gpa, not just pre-req's

Where does everyone get the statistics about how many people applied to the school and who got in etc etc?

I wish I knew exactly how competitive my school was.

Everyone says my school is very competitive because the list of pre-reqs is killer plus the A&P classes are so darn hard that I have met several people that either repeated them or have considered repeating them just to raise their grade.

I know they take in to account your grades in NAS 161 & 162(which is A&P I & II plus Micro), CHM, BIO, ENG, and this Intro to Healthcare 1 credit class, as well as your math placement, computer competency and TEAS(formerly HESI) scores. They say that the GPA cutoff is 2.5 but I just can't see how anybody with a 2.5 pre-req GPA would ever survive nursing school-IMHO.

I have a 4.0 and by the time I (hopefully) start the nursing program in the fall I will have completed every pre-req(which is required before even applying, my school doesn't have a wait list) as well as every supporting course for the nursing program. School comes very easy to me because I don't work and my son is in day care, so I don't have an excuse. However, for some reason I have this little devil in the back of my mind that keeps telling me that there is a chance I won't get in...I don't know how that would be possible. Maybe I should spend more time in prayer. I am a huge worry wart and I hate it. I need to stay positive.

I bought the textbooks today that the 1st semester class uses. I got the entire syllabus from a girl who just started the program. I am trying to take my mind off getting in until I do get in. I need to learn how to just relax.

3.8 and below are not in contention whatsoever. 450 students for 28 seats.

No official letter yet, but I've received a verbal 'nod' from the department head! :D

My first choice school has 800-1000 applicants, out of these they do 500 interviews and accept 125 students!!

Everyone says my school is very competitive because the list of pre-reqs is killer plus the A&P classes are so darn hard that I have met several people that either repeated them or have considered repeating them just to raise their grade.

Our school will only allow one repeated class (this includes withdrawals) to qualify for admittance. One of the students repeated Anatomy (the easiest of our required pre-reqs), so she must receive an 'A' in every other class now, to ever be allowed to apply for NS here.

i have heard we had 22 app per opening, but after weeding (gpa, net, and all that good stuff)they interviewd 4 per opening
