Got a D in A&P 2..

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I decided to take a&p with chemistry at the same time last semester and ended up getting a D in a&p 2... I live in New York and I've seen that there is no cuny that accepts anything lower than a C or any repeated grade (supposedly). Was there anyone in my shoes before and got into a nursing program? Any advice?

I've never seen a program accept a D in a prereq. You'll need to repeat it for grade improvement.

Move to florida,RN school is easier here

Most schools require a C or better to pass the course. If you got a D that's not passing and you may not have gotten credit for it. I would look into retaking it if possible.

Most schools would drop the D if you get a better grade on the next round .

In the nursing world, D is failing. You're going to have to retake the course for a better grade, and apply to schools that allow retakes. Good luck.

You'll need to retake the class. I don't know of any school that accepts less than a 2.5 in pre-req courses.

Good day, Tl70:

General rule of thumb is a C or higher for credits to transfer; and when dealing with nursing prerequisites, even if the school(s) involved are not using a point system, you want to shoot for A's and B's in the hardcore sciences. May I suggest as you repeat this class, that at the first sign of trouble (not when you get midterm or final grades), you ask for help from your professor and learning center.

Thank you.

How so? Will I be able to move back to nyc and work as a nurse?

Thanks for everyone's responses. I feel like a failure sometimes because I manage to get a D. I'm just finding it difficult to find a program that allows retakes. Well I was looking into CUNYS such as YORK or LEHMAN. I'm currently in hunter but since I got a D, and they don't allow retakes, I can't apply for the program here. So I'm thinking about transferring out of here just don't know where and I don't wanna retake it again and waste money then it will not get transfer over if I apply to a SUNY college...

Physiology is the basis you need for understanding Med-Surg in nursing school. If you can't pass the class with higher than a D, then you will not make it through nursing school. Bottom line. So, you either need to re-take the course to get the basic understanding of how the human body functions or you aren't going to get in to nursing school. It's not a "waste of time" or a "waste of money". It has to be done. Otherwise, get ready to get rejected from any program you apply to with a D in A&P. I'm not trying to be harsh, but you really need to be realistic about this.

I want to be honest with you . There is no way Hunter will take you with those grades . That school is super competitive . Try small community colleges to do your pre requisites . What about la guardia or NCCC. SCCC is also great . Pump your grades by starting all over again . If you want to be a nurse, you have no choice . You need to concentrate on your sciences , English and psychology . Good luck to you !
