Freaking out

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hey guys so I have a question about Nursing and whether or not it's for me. I am a freshman this year, and I am honestly struggling with Chemistry and somewhat Anatomy as well. This is my second semester taking chemistry, and my first time taking anatomy. I have only had one test in each class. Should I freak out that I'm not doing well right now, or cut myself some slack?

How much time are you dedicating to each class study wise?

Are those the only classes you're taking?

I personally never doubled up on my sciences. I tried to take science classes with other prereqs like english or nutrition. There might be a possibility that you added too much to your plate, too soon. But that's just my perspective.

Yeah I am also taking statistics and then religion and a public speaking class. The only reason I am taking two sciences plus a math is because my advisor said since this is my second time taking chemistry it shouldn't be too much of a load. I also feel like I'm dedicating a lot of time to studying. For Anatomy I studied everyday and I got a 75 on the lecture test, and even worse on the lab test. Should I just increase my study time? Should I consider a different career in the health field?

Oh my! Stats, anatomy AND chemistry? I spent 3 hours a day on A&P alone....

Sorry - but when it comes to nursing pre-requisites, there is no slack. Many programs also have hard limits on course repeats; too many can actually disqualify you for admission. If you're working as hard as you can and still not achieving results that are needed for nursing school admission, it would be wise to begin exploring alternative careers. It is not necessarily a reflection on your intelligence - everyone's brain is wired differently. Your aptitudes and talents may be in an entirely different direction.

You might want to switch up the way you study. Adjustments are always needed, as soon as I started taping AP lectures and would listen back, used Anatomy coloring books etc, it really made a world of difference

I don't think you should give up on nursing just yet. Freshman year of college is tough, no matter what you're studying, and it can take some time to adjust to the way you need to study in order to perform well in your classes. Talk to other students who seem to be doing well in the classes you're struggling with and see if they have any study strategies that could be helpful to you, or take advantage of tutoring on campus and your professor's office hours. Don't be afraid to ask for help!

^^^This can help a lot, you also might try looking up videos on the subjects too. I know a lot of people that have used khan academy to help them in their prereqs.

Also, quizlet is an amazing up to help you study. You can turn the flash cards into tests for yourself. I also found watching crash course on YouTube really broke down a&p for me as well. Hopefully it can help you too!

I think you are seriously overbooked, and getting in the way of your own success. The theory that Chem the second time shouldn't be hard is just stupid (IMHO). You didn't get it the first time, why would it be any easier now? Look, nursing school acceptance is incredibly competitive, and your grades are IMPORTANT ! If it takes a couple extra semesters to get your pre-reqs done, so be it. Otherwise you're going to be panicked about never getting accepted because your gpa is too low, you didn't get ther necessary grades in your core bio's, etc. Take the time to do it right. Please? Otherwise we're all going to have to hear you whining down the road about how you should have listened! Lol!

She's right! my low (minimum )gpa combined with a spectacular entrance test score did not one thing to allay my fears of a second! (Oh yes,last year was a No) denial. Only after I got the acceptance email could I relax. Take your time and ace those sciences. That's the meat of nursing
