Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Well got both Sacramento City college and American River college responses today. Alternate at SCC and nothing at ARC. This is so upsetting 4 time applying at ARC (never even got on the alternates list there) and 3rd time at SCC (and have always gotten on the alternates list). I am at Sac State but couldnt pick up the o-chem as all classes were full last semester. Hoping to get in to o-chem and be able to apply this Spring. I have around a 3.8/3.9 gpa and still need to take the teas test but I am hoping to do well enough to be competitive. Two years of my life waiting and all for naught. Pretty much done at the 4 yr level, just need my major work. Sorry to dump this here, I just wanted to vent. Crossing my fingers that I do well on teas and get into o-chem but being a junior sucks cause we are near the bottom for reg. dates and since I transferred I no longer get priority enrollment at the community college level.... :sniff:

Well don't give up! I am just now finishing 1st semester at SCC and I was an alternate. They called me about 5 weeks before class started, but one of my classmates got called on wed! class had begun the day before...she was a little stressed but has done well. So good luck and maybe I'll see you. P

This is all sounding very discouraging. I just got my rejection letter from SCC after applying for the first time. My letter says I'm an alternate but I think everyone who is qualified is an alternate. I have yet to hear from ARC. I wish there were a way for more students to be accepted to these programs but I guess that's not going to happen. The lottery system sucks! I know I will get in one day so I'm not too worried. Keep your head up and just remember that things will work out in the end.

You all don't even know the worst part...people get accepted and are not any way prepared to be successful...the school now is trying to reduce the number of drops by instituting a shadow program. This hasn't started yet but the plan is allow students that are either accepted into the program or those on the first 1/3 of the alternate list to spend a few hours shadowing an RN at a hospital. They're hoping that this will cut down on the number that drop out because nursing as they find out after starting the program is not for them. Your letter should designate whether you were in the top 1/3 or the last 2/3rds (SCC only) ARC has that letter where they put a check mark on spot that applies to you (real personal...NOT!) One of the instructors mentioned that they had over 400 apps for spring semester, only about 380 for my group. My semester they took 34 students and they said that was the most they had taken...I know that doesn't sound like alot but at clinical rotation there was 12 of us at one hospital and it was tough on our instructor...she runs alot. Well I know this won't make you feel better...I just wanted to give you a little insight into the program...Please don't give up!icon14.gif One of my classmates took 5 times before he got in some others got accepted to both programs the first time...no rhyme or reason for it...yes the lottery system does stink but I guess its the best system that they have been able to come up yet.

P.S. We have only lost 2 so far...the instructors and other semester students kind of suprised about this. They said that it is usually more but so far our class has been doing really well. P

Well thanks for the encouragement. Its rough and yes I had a friend get in and he was suprised at the drop rate. There was something like 8 of them left when we last spoke. It was out of 32 at the start. He got in on the Mercy spots, which I guess got cut so no more hospital designated spots. Psqrd, I wish you the best of luck in your continuation of the program. RN, dont worry you should have ARC's response, soon and maybe you got in as I heard that the declines go out first and then the acceptance packets. So I got mine on Wednesday, so maybe :cross my fingers for ya: yours will be the lovely acceptance.

I got the same letters the day before Thanksgiving. I'm applying again to both schools. This will be the third time for ARC and the second for SCC. I'm also applying to the accelerated SCC program.... It's a royal pain.

JDA1977: Don't get discouraged and give up. Does Sac State have a health sciences dept? You could take classes in hlth science as a minor while you are waiting. Or you could take some classes in the education dept. that might help you down the road, should you ever go into a job teaching nrsg. Whatever you have chosen as a minor, take classes in that subject while you are waiting on nrsg school. And it is a good idea to apply to the accelerated

programs. If you have to, start applying to programs that are not close to you. But don't give up yet. Good luck.

Is anyone got accepeted at ARC for fall 2008 ?.. Congrat's to you if you do. After 6 times i applied I finally got accepted. I will be taking TEAS test in 2 weeks, this is one of their requirements.

I got in this semester too!!!

This was my 4th time applying to ARC and I was so surprised when I got the letter last Friday.

It really shows you that persistence pays off in the end!

Are you going to take the Clinical Strategies class this summer? I enrolled in it because I felt it would be best to get any additional practice and knowledge when I can.

There is another person that is on here that got in with us too. Her name on all nurses is Danibee. She is taking the class as well, you should think about it!
