I like the 11 inch MacBook laptop because I think it is very light and easy to get in my purse or backpack. Very light weight and just very practical but what do you guys think? Let me know :)

I absolutely love my MacBook Pro! I love all of my apple gadgets! I'm an apple nut!!! Lol! User friendly plus, if it's absolutely required, you can easily change pages documents to word documents. I use an app called audionote on my macbook to record class (where allowed) while taking notes that follow the recording. Very helpful and also available on my iphone and ipad. The recordings end up on my phone, ipad, and macbook so I can study anytime and anywhere. Same with pages or keynote. I used these back when I had A&P. My instructor allowed us to take photos of slides in the microscope so I took photos of them, labeled them through keynote, and had them on all my gadgets to study. My MacBook Pro has been invaluable to me so it was very well worth the cash!

I have the 13" mac air and I like it. The 11" has a much smaller footprint for coffee shops, desks, and is cheaper.
With 9 hours charge, most days you should be able to leave your charger at home or in car.
Mine averages 12 hours, but I am not at school for more than 7 hours. If you want to watch Netflix on the school's WiFi then a charger may be handy.
I would say go to BestBuy and try the 11" out first, using web and try typing some documents.

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro 13 Inch! I love it! before that I had a dell and crashed, died quickly, it was just terrible. I'm so glad I have this one. Reliable, easy to use if you love apple products or just tech savy, and if you're a student you get $100/200 off?
I think the 11 inches are adorable especially the 11 air. But it just wasn't for me. Plus me personally something that light and small wouldn't last long in my hands. I would definitely need a case

angikat, that's an impressive system you have going with your Apple gizmos! It's very appealing.
Still, I had better experience with taking notes by hand. There seems to be some evidence that handwritten is better than keyboarding for long-term memory though of course each individual is unique and not everyone is at the middle of the bell curve.

Yep. I'd rather get a $399 Toshiba laptop or a $599 HP laptop instead of spending thousands on one Mac. For the life of me I will never understand the brand-name obsession with Apple products.
I have an iPhone 5s because I bought into the hype and was decently pleased with my 4s. What a waste of money, there literally are very few differences between the two. I am going back to Droid ASAP and the only thing I will miss is iMessage. It's all marketing/hype and this is coming from a prior IT guy.

I completely agree. It's just a bunch of hype. I have bounced back and forth between androids and iPhones since the very first iPhone came out years ago and I keep going back to android. My last iPhone was a 4s and when the 5s came out I was not pleased and got a Samsung Galaxy s4 and I'm quite happy. I do miss iMessage and the auto syncing of my music with iTunes but I'm otherwise happy with android. Apple really needs to step up their game with iPhones otherwise they will end up along the lines of blackberry....in the dust. Now I can't say the same for my iPad. Mine goes with me to work and school and I love it. I'm a technology melting pot :)

Just wanted to say that I have a surface and I freaking love it. It's not my primary computer, but Its so perfect for class. You can take hand written notes with it, read ebooks and it functions like a computer.

Good day:
I came from the IT world (almost 3 decades), and Consumer Reports year after year after year (without fail) rates Apple products not only at the highest quality, the highest customer service, the best warranty, and the best repair rates. Not a single PC manufacturer comes close to the ratings. Phones aside, I think the reason for people choosing to get an Apple for a computer is due to decades of track records which have yet to be beat.
As for me, I've a PC desktop (which when it goes will be replaced by an Apple MacBook; I'm still researching which one), an iPad, and an android phone. So I read you on the technology melting pot. I built my desktop from scratch; and while it was an interesting lesson to go through, it like the Dell's, HP's, Compaq's, etc. that I've owned in the past doesn't match experientially to what I hear from my fellow Apple users (hence, when it goes, Apple will get my business from then on unless they start losing on Consumer Reports win after win after win after win after win after win -- get the picture?).
Thank you.
I understand where you're coming from. But the issue with toshiba or hp is that they don't last long. I've had my dell for 3 years & it started to crash and slowly break down. Not saying that can't happen to MacBooks, but compared to those, mac books last longer & usually don't get viruses. I know mac users who had theirs since 2000/01 & still works fine. But again, you have a good point.
I've had my Compaq Presario PC since 2003. It is still going strong.
I've had my HP laptop since 2008. It is still going strong.
Besides, if the $399 laptop crashes and burns a few years after you own it, obtaining another $399 laptop would still be cheaper than spending thousands on an Apple/Mac. However, I agree that Apple products rate highest for reliability.
