Do you have to take algebra?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am banging my head against the wall here! I am honestly considering changing majors for the mere fact that I do not think it is possible that I am going to make it through the 2 (yes 2!!) algebra classes that I have to have to become an RN at this college. I was in the first class this semester, and ended up dropping and going to pre-algebra within the first 3 weeks of classes. Now here I am in pre-algebra pulling an A because I already know how to do the stuff they are teaching (which is why I placed into the first algebra class) I don't know what I am going to do!?!?!:bluecry1: I have my schedule made up for spring, but I cannot make myself take more than the bio and algebra class because I am scared of failing. Honestly, I wish I could just take a year to take the math classes alone...that is how freaked out I am over the material. Anyways, I guess the reason I am complaining is because at the college I used to attend in Illinois, you didn't have to have algebra, only math for meds. Still trying to talk my hubby into letting me go home for the actual nursing program so I can skip the dang classes all-to-gether. lol

Specializes in Geriatrics, Cardiac, ICU.
Needless to say, I didn't take calculus or Trig in high school.

You can do it though! :) Have you started it yet?

Yep, I've started already and I've sent on my first assignment. My plan is to get 100's on all the homework(11 assignments) so I only have to get a 60 on the Final. My syllabus says I have to pass the final to pass the class, so I think this means getting at least a D. This will give me a C for a final average. The answers to my questions are all in the back of the book, so at least I know they are right, but I still have to show some work, so it's not like I could jusr copy the answers. I know aiming for a C is not very ambitious, but I know we don't need calculus in nursing and I'm already in the program; all I need is to pass with a C. I guess if I can pass this, drug calculations should be a breeze, but I've taken that and got an A. Lord, help me.

Specializes in Operating Room.

:chuckle I think there are just some classes that people think that way...either b/c they are so hard, or so boring.

For my music class, I am making 10/10 out of each assignment, and made 45/50 on the test.

We have a poem assignment, and a concert assignment. I figured I needed around a 60 on each to make an A on the class.

I'm not sure how my papers will turn out, but as of right now, I can't see being able to write 600 words over a poem and a concert. ok, maybe I can, but I'm just ready for it to be overwith.

I'm trying to get ahead on my assignmnets to hurry up and finish the class.

Good luck to you though, calculus, uggggh! Just remember why you are doing it, and keep your eye on the big reward. :) You can pass it, I have faith in ya!!!!

I am taking pre-algebra right now. I have to have Alg 1 for the ADN program, college alg for the hospital diploma program and Stats if I want my BSN.

Problem is it goes like this

Pre-alg

alg 1

alg 2

college alg

stats

Thats a lot of math, and I am almost positive that I am going to fail pre alg, we have to have an 80 or higher or its an F. I was getting A's at first but my last test was on fractions and I only got a 38:crying2: I have another test on fractions monday and I'm going to fail it too . I just do not understand math, at all. Ofcourse we have to show all of our work and do all these different steps too. A lot of the problems I can do in my head but if I cant show how I get the answer its wrong. Grrr...I'm not the brightest crayon in the box when it comes to math!

I had to take Math 090 and Chemistry 090. I made a B in math and I was so happy about it. I took it via cassette tapes. I swear I will never take another cassette course. If you're making an A I wouldn't worry about the next class. I am sure you will do just fine.

Good luck!
