Do honor societies make a difference?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hey all! Just have a quick question about the application process. First off, I am a BSN seeking student at a state university applying for the program next spring. According to everyone and their cousin, my universities nursing program is unbelievably hard to get into. Well, my first thought is everyone's grades are not the same nor does everyone have the same amount of shadowing or just the personality that the nursing program feels one should have to be a nurse. But say that you have alot of people that DO qualify......then theres a problem. So far, my grades are great, I do have shadowing hours (with an outpatient nurse and a CRNA) and I am very much a people person. Well, tonight I was accepted into the Delta Epsilon Iota Honor Society. Does anyone think that this puts an extra spark to the application or does it not matter? And if it doesn't, can anyone tell me what else I can do to make my application stand out? Thanks for the comments and suggestions! God Bless!

Possibly the selection process is different at the state universities..I am a community college student and I am a member of PTK (Phi Theta Kappa) honor society - I can't speak for others, but as for my experience being in this honor society, it did not make 2 cents worth of a difference on my application as plenty of students are admitted into our ASN program w/o being a member of it ..but I can say this...it sure looks good hangin' on my wall! LOL Our program like so many others is very competitive - the wait list is terrible, so after two previous application processes, I just found out I am #13 on the alternate list for the upcoming January program..rah..will see how that goes. Congratulations on your acceptance into DEI tho! I would think they would look more at the fact that you have documented shadowing hours but ..IMO, it never hurts to put the HS on the application - it is a hard earned accomplishment that you've been recognized for..:) so I would be sure to list it in your letter or app. Good luck to you!

Congrats, first of all. :)

I think it all depends on the school, and how they do the applications.

My cc didn't have a spot for this type of thing, but yours may. If it has anywhere for achievements, or place to put personal stuff, make sure to mention it. If you have to write a letter, be sure to mention it.

It surely couldn't hurt. GOOD LUCK! :)

It didn't help me get into my program ( CC as well) but it helped me get a $1,000 scholarship, so it was well worth it for me! :)

I would check out the schools application and see if it has a section for other info. I would think that schools that are getting so many qualified applications for so few seats, they would be looking at everything in order to make sure they are picking the right peoplee.
