I am going to be taking the compass test soon. Does anyone know of a good study guide so I can get prepared? Thanks so much!

I would focus on Math. I didn't want to take remedial courses and hadn't had any math in 15+ years so I borrowed a friend's homeschool math books and studied for months. I am really glad I did. (I started at pre algebra and completed all the way up through alg 2, which was way overboard-I scored a 99 on the math which was the highest they'd seen).

The rest of the test is basics that aren't easily studied for like vocab, grammar, and the like.. It's been a while for me though, I've taken a lot of tests since then.

Focus on math, that's what gets most peopleā€¦.

Do you have to take all sections of it? I just had to take the math section and I googled Compass Test study guide. There were a lot of reviews online. I would start there. I did really well on the math section(I'm terrible at math, I got an 18 on the math section of the ACT, hence the reason I had to take the test). Use the free resources before you buy anything.

Thank you so much everyone!!! I feel much better now#:-)

I am taking a course through my library that's free. It's actually a GED study prep, but it teaches the same thing that the compass tests for. It's a 6 week course all online. You might could see if your library does that also? You can also call your college and ask if they offer tutoring or study guides. Good luck!

i took the compass and had to take remedial math. If you look for algebra one books that should be sufficient as the reiderate alg1 and 2 once you take college alg. you will be fine then. take your time to read passages. make sure you dont get a headache. drink plenty of water and rest well the day before. i had the worst migraine so it took a toll on me.

Thanks so much, I am feeling much better about it now! I might use my son's ged book to study! :-)

I took it and have had to take remedial algebra last semester and this one. I am very happy I did though because there was no way I could have done college algebra without these refresher courses. I will take college algebra over the summer. The only thing I don't like is the credits and grade don't count for these classes. I hate paying for classes that don't count.

So the COMPASS test is similar to the GED? I should do fine then. I had to take the GED test because I had to drop out of HS, and they said I was in the top 5% of GED graduates in my state.

(Sorry, I know this isn't my thread, but I found it helpful too. :))

Ha ha. Glad u found it helpful too! I have heard that the 2 tests are similar. Which made me glad too! :-)

I had to take the English compass test a while back and it had a lot of punctuation questions on it.

This site was a good review English Rules | Punctuation Rules | Punctuation and Capitalization Rules

You can then take a free quiz on any rule you want to test yourself on.

If you haven't been in school for a while you tend to forget all the rules.
