Can nurses have facial piercings?

My friend and I were arguing over whether or not this is allowed. I'm thinking not, do you guys know?

Not allowed in my program. For our clinicals, facial piercings have to be removed. Tats have to be covered. And if you have those huge stretched holes in your ear lobes, forgot what they are called at the moment, you better find a way to make them look smaller LOL

Mangopeach: You must be referring to "gauges".

My A&P professor was also a practicing physician with a private practice. He told our class that he would never hire anyone with tattoos because he would lose patients. His practice served mostly had older patients and he explained to us that they would not be comfortable with tattooed workers in a health care capacity.

Unprofessional... plus it makes the people who wear them look like morons... but that is just my opinion

Well that's rude

In my program a definite NO! One set of studs in ears only -watch only, no other jewlery - absolutely no visible tattoos. They have to be covered up. Personnally - totally agree - If you have a tattoo for your near and dear it's your business, but in a healthcare professional anything that can be seen looks very unprofessional.

Normally not allowed. Someone else mentioned the safety factor, and it's not just kids. Patients with diminished mental capacity also love to grab at shiny things. I could NOT imagine having something ripped out of my face like that. OUCH! (My child took care of me wearing earrings for a while. LOL) Tatts have to be covered up too. (Makes me glad I never did anything other than my ankles, and my socks take care of those.)
