Almost talked myself out of attending school.

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Today I almost talked myself out of applying to school in January.:nono: I need to do some pre-reqs because some of my pre-nursing classes from the UK wont transfer(things like anatomy, biology, med terminology) and the idea of taking math scares the heck out of me. I would be starting at the lowest level and working my way up to Algebra/Statistics, I am really kicking myself for dropping math in highschool for subjects I knew I could pass.

I know I can do this job, I was an ER vet tech for 3 years and while totally different from being an RN the stress, 14hr shifts, working out of meds and injections and medical knowledge and use of IV;s I learned there will help me greatly and I was going to throw it all away over a silly math class.

I can do this, I can do this, I can do this. Has anyone else had to start at basic math and still graduated? or is there no hope for me?

Specializes in Family Nurse Practitioner.

You will be fine! And you are correct that your veterinary background will help pave the way for learning human nursing. Good luck. Jules

you can totally do it, just utilize your resources at the college. If you get some extra help with math you'll do just fine. Good luck!!

Yes, you can, yes, you can, yes, you can. Think :nurse:

A good friend of mine years ago became my good friend when I started tutoring her in math. She was horrible at it and had to get to a certain level in order to get into the nursing program (as it is with a lot of places). She succeeded in getting to the level she needed, went through nursing school and makes one of the best nurses I have ever seen :)
