Where have you applied? Gotten your acceptance/rejection letter yet?

Hi there! Just wanted to get to know each other some more and kind of see what everyone's plans were.

Just curious to see:

  1. Where all did you apply for NP school?
  2. Which school is your first choice and why?
  3. What speciality? (FNP, PMHNP, ACNP, AGNP, etc)?
  4. What was your GPA, GRE, and how much/what type of experience did you have?
  5. Have you heard back from any school(s) yet?
  6. What semester are you looking to start?
  7. Online or on campus?

Here are my answers:

  1. UNC Chapel Hill, UNC Charlotte, UNC Wilmington, University of Alabama. Debating applying to Duke, Vanderbilt, & NYU (I will apply to those once I get acceptance/rejection letters from the first 4, just because they are all so expensive, they would be my last choices).
  2. Chapel Hill is my first choice now - it's distinguished but still a state school so it's affordable. I currently live in Charlotte, NC, so I wouldn't be moving so far I would be leaving my family completely. Alabama is my 2nd choice. Their program would be amazing because it combines the FNP & PMHNP and it's all online, which would be fantastic.
  3. I've applied to FNP and PMHNP programs. I have a background in psychiatric emergency department and also pulmonary progressive telemetry. I would be so happy with either route, and honestly I couldn't decide myself. So I figured whatever program I got into would ultimately make the decisions for me.
  4. I have a 3.76 overall GPA with a 3.9 in nursing. My GRE wasn't outstanding, I scored a 152 on verbal, 162 on quantitative, and 4.0 on writing. I have 2 years experience.
  5. Not heard back anything yet. Most deadlines just hit, so I'm thinking by mid-April I should know something.
  6. UNC Charlotte starts in the summer, but all other programs are Fall 2014.
  7. I would honestly prefer an online curriculum, but the only online only is Alabama. The rest are combined into on-campus and distance education.

Nice to meet you all!

Tasha, thanks that is a good thing you are doing at Simmons with helping and inplementing these scholars program for military families. I really liked Simmons too but the fees compared to University of Cincinnati was a deal breaker for me. I am doing the hybrid-on campus program at UC so will be doing my clinicals around Cincinnati. They also have the GI bill for university of Cincinnati and a school that has so many benefits for military and their families. In all honesty I haven't had any issues with communication with them. My emails and phone calls have been returned within 24hrs, thank God. That said I figured I will get instate tuition so I can easily cover the cost without taking any loans. Good luck with Simmons and I have decided to still enroll in the bio bridge course this May, so I might change my mind since I won't start both programs till August/sept respectively anyways.

if you have 100% gi bill then it will cover simmons cost at 100% (except for books), i have not paid anything out of pocket at all.

I'm not sure I understood you post so will you be attending on campus then or Simmons online FNP?

Tasha, I just realized that you may have been confused about me attending Simmons online vs on campus because of the application due date not being until June 1 for the on-campus program starting Fall 2014. I originally applied for the dual program with the Harvard School of Public Health, so the Simmons portion of that application was due February 15, and I hear back in March. I didn't get into the Harvard portion, but I got the acceptance from Simmons, and that's why I know even though applications aren't due for awhile.

Accepted EKU PMHNP online program starting summer 2014

No GRE required if GPA meets criteria

GPA 3.8

I managed to make it into the Ohio State University Family Nurse Practitioner MSN program.

GRE: Not required or taken.

GPA: Undergrad- 3.0 in BA in Rhetoric. 4.0 in AS in Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics. 3.98 in nursing school.

Applications: I only applied to Ohio State. A lot of the other schools around here seem to frown on non-nursing bachelor's degrees.

Best of luck to everyone awaiting admissions!

I applied and I haven't heard anything! If they could send an email saying we should know by the 15th, they could send an email saying they're behind!

I have to report some great customer service. I decided to call to find out how the decision letters were coming along for USA and GWU. USA was a little dismissive but figured they were busy, told me that the letters were to come out after May 1st. No problem. Called GWU and they immediately looked up my file to find out where in the process my application was, found out they were missing my resume, called me back in minutes to tell me and it is now on the way to the committees who will decide my fate. I was pretty impressed.

Ash, micu, jrst, & any other UNCC FNP applicants- I called today and they said that "notification for that program has been delayed until the week of April 28". The lady's tone was pretty sharp, I'm guessing I'm not the first caller about notification. But they could've sent out an email that told us about the delay. I'm just glad I'm not planning on re-locating, that would be tough.
