Thanks birthrevolution! And thank you for your openness, hopefully our paths will cross at some point. I wish you the best as well!

Congrats sheilanagig! I have a question, which phone number did they call of yours, is it your permanent address or cell phone or work? How do they know which number to call? I want to be available and there when they call!

I wonder why it takes so long for them to get back to us if all the replies are in last week already...thank you!
Hey hemicoffee- I was a MEPN alternate for the last two years in Gerontology, and here's how I understand it: if you said you want to be an alternate and you don't get notified relatively soon after the reply date for accepted applicants, it likely means there are currently no spaces in your specialty. However, if one of the accepted folks who replied by the 3/15 deadline has a change of heart or circumstances and withdraws anytime up until the first day of classes (likely 6/23 this year), you could still get the call. I didn't get official "rejection" letters from UCSF until after classes started in late June both years I was an alternate. (And now, with my 3rd application as an ever-improving candidate, I'm in!!) Waiting with the knowledge that you may not know for months is hard, I know! Hope you hear good news soon- best of luck!

hey hemicoffee and other mepn alternates,
bluedreamofsky's description of the process sounds right-on to me. last year, i was placed as a #2 alternate to my specialty (peds np) when i applied to the program. the wait from march until june was really tough and, by the end of march, i would have gladly traded my limbo state for a flat-out rejection from ucsf. however, i had to wait until late june for my official rejection. a friend of mine, also placed as a 2nd alternate to her specialty (achin), was offered a spot in the program around mid-april. you can never know how things will work out-- so stay strong and remember that the fact that you made it this far in this crazy process is a massive achievement in and of itself. good luck to you!

ps: i'm a 3rd time mepn applicant and was finally accepted this year (!!!). looking forward to meeting my future classmates in june!

Hey for those of you who already got into the MEPN class of 2008, can you please tell us poor alternate-listers when UCSF told you guys you have to make a decision/send in the deposit by?
They asked for a signed intent to register by March 15th. They have not yet asked for money.

I suspect that it may be as late as June 16th because some folks may want to attend but cannot do so at the last minute.

UCSF was my first choice because it is down the road from me, is of high quality, is a major research institution (I am interested in an academic career), and it is a public university.

Hey MRLD, I'm another who was accepted into the mental health focus. I am in the Integrated Psych CNS/ANP track. I heard (through the grapevine) that there were "8 good candidates" in the psych specialities. Not sure if that means first choice only or also inlcuding the alternates. I'd love to meet and begin the carmaraderie of incoming MEPN students. I'm already in SF.
Did you interview with the first or second round of applicants?

    Hey all,
It was really great to meet Healthmatters and to realize that MsnasMHA and I met on interview day. Sweet!

We should do something again soon. Should we start a gmail group for the incoming MEPNS? I can do that if you guys want. It's just nice to have some communication and camaraderie while we're all figuring out funding, housing, blah blah blah.

    Whatcha think?

Hi everyone! I'm new to this thread...wow it's looong! ...and very informative.

I will be applying to the MEPN program for 2009. I applied to UCSF (my only nursing application) 3 years ago, and didn't make the cut. Now I'm trying again with a lot more experience, a lot more pre-requisties, and some serious dedication to getting into nursing school. This is my BIG year for nursing apps, and even though UCSF is the holy grail of them all, I'm determined to get into the nursing profession somewhere...

I'm a certified massage therapist, and recently started a massage therapy internship with the hospital where I've been volunteering the past two years. As you can probably guess, I'm all about the ANP-Integrated Complementary Healing track.

I really look forward to working through this crazy process with all of you wonderful hopefuls!

Also CONGRATULATIONS to those of you accepted to the 2008 class. I hope in all the crazyness of your first year, some of you will stop back in and give us some updates!!

    Take care!

Hi everyone! I'm new to this thread...wow
Welcome! I think the thread has been going for several years.

I friend of mine is an massage therapist who subsequently did the MEPN ANP program. He now works in primary care with HIV+ adults.

Good luck on the process. It is long and hard but it does not last forever...
