Observation units
Can anyone give me more info about what to expect on an observation unit? I know these patients are too sick to go home, but not sick enough to be admitted onto the floor, but is the flow more like Tele or ED? or neither? I have to decide between taking another Tele RN position or this new opportunity and would just like to get everyone's opinion.

Any UCSF Mepn Applicants?
because i was a little too excited for this coming june, i decided to backtrack through all of the posts pertaining to this year's applicants and upon doing a little (some might say neurotic and stalkerish lol) research, i have calculated the number of people on this board who have been accepted into the ACNP specialty. there are 5 of us so far (which is about the same number as the previous year i believe) and based on everyone's reaction to being accepted, i'm assuming we're all seeing each other in june : lananp travelingman star77 healthmatters ... and me. anyone else lurking around the boards and wanna reveal yourself to your future classmates?? anyways, to my 4 other awesome ACNPers, here's a hearty CONGRATS on my part! I look forward to meeting you guys, as well as the rest of the MEPN class in June!

thanks for the input star. i just confirmed my intention to accept admission into the program so i'll be seeing you in june. btw i talked with the person who was the #1 alternate for our specialty (don't know if you remember her but she was sitting next to me in the lecture hall after lunch.) and she's headed to yale this year. so good news for whoever's #2, you just moved up a spot!

Any UCSF Mepn Applicants?
to my fellow ACNP applicants who applied to both UCSF and Yale's programs, what do you think of the fact that Yale's curriculum gives students 970 clinical hours while UCSF gives a minimum of 540? I emailed Roxanne Garbez, the director of the ACNP program at UCSF and she said that most do around 600-700 hours but there have been students who've done a rare max of 800-900. Frankly, I'm shocked there's such a difference between the two programs in terms of clinical hours. That makes Yale much more attractive in my opinion but any other opinions on this?

UPenn BSN/MSN- Anybody Else?
hi there... i applied for the acute care np specialty and i received acceptance into the bsn program today through email. now just have to wait for word on the master's portion. edit: received my email regarding the msn decision yesterday 1/29 and i'm in!!! what a sigh of relief and although it's not my first choice (still waiting a while for ucsf) it's good to know i have an option now. good luck to those still waiting! btw i'm pretty surprised there's been little to no talk about penn's bsn/msn program... it is only the #1 private nursing program in the nation right behind UW and UCSF but most people only talk about Yale and/or UCSF and other smaller east coast programs. Where are you guys?

Any Johns Hopkins (JHU) BSN/MSN 2008 applicants?
hmmm so it looks like that's 2 people who got calls for FNP... maybe jhs really does have different times/dates for notifying applicants of their acceptance based on the specialty? fingers crossed!

Any UCSF Mepn Applicants?
this is pretty old by now but i just wanted to add my 2 cents in regarding relatively low "stats" and deciding not to apply to certain schools because you think you won't stand a chance.... i had a 3.2 gpa for undergrad (cell bio major at Cal), relatively little work and volunteer experience or leadership skills coming out... i was one of those people who KNEW I was going to get rejected because of my stats. i didn't apply right out of college but instead of moping about numbers, i decided to build up the experience and change what I still could. It's been 2 years in the making and I can honestly say that even though the amount of my experience doesn't even come close to matching the experience of some of the people on this board, i've still been given the opportunity to prove myself through invitations to interview. Granted, my gre score is relatively high (V:670, Q:720, A:5) but i had to study my butt off for it because I was determined to offset my low gpa. Even then, I highly doubt the schools decided to give me a chance based on that alone. my point is, yes you should apply as long as you have the minimum. i'm sure there have been students accepted even with minimum stats. but the essay, rec letters, and experience have a lot of weight in the decision process too. so if you don't feel confident because of low numbers, do yourself a favor and make yourself look like a better applicant in other areas. it really doesn't hurt to try at all but no one said the process was going to be easy. yes, it's not a good feeling to be rejected but what's even worse is that you would never know if you didn't try at all.

Anyone applying to Yale GEPN for fall of 08'
hi all! my interview is scheduled for jan 17. i applied for the acnp specialty and am a fellow san franciscan as well so I am happy to hear so many of us got interviews! i am planning to fly out jan 16 to BDL but have not decided whether to book a hotel or stay with a student yet. i have checked southwest but their flight times and connections are horrible. i even went through the yale link to go to orbitz and they have pretty good deals but it is still a good sum of $$ considering I am broke from christmas shopping and what not. Does anyone know which hotels are closest to the campus and how far the airport is from new haven? congrats again to those who have received invitations and for those who didn't, best of luck with your other schools!
