Congratulations Iyela. Me too. I'm interviewing Friday, April 7th. Am concerned about the travel costs to go there, but I do need to check out the program before making such a big decision. Did you apply anywhere else?

Hey Renerian-- Nope. Haven't heard yet. The deadline to apply was February 15th. They said they'll be doing interviews the first week in April, so I should hear by then. (Oh--and I'm glad it's a Democrat town, that was CGMatt who isn't). I'll let you know when I hear, thanks for thinking of me!

Hi Kim--I still say go for it at Western U. I understand about the ugly, suburban look. Somehow for me, being sort of insular seems like a plus, with less external stress. I got rejected from UCSF and am waiting on Medical University of Ohio, of all places!! (Talk about ugly and gray!) A very close friend of mine who's an NP/Midwife from the UCSF program got rejected the first time she applied, so your acceptance could be delayed also. I say get your RN at least, then if you want to transfer to a different NP program you can! The Western U program is closed and taking apps for 2007.

Hi Kim00mik-- Congrats on getting into Western U. I was going to apply there, but the physiology class I took was only 3 units, and they needed 4. I get a good feeling for the place, because it's a focused technical school. I don't think it matters too much where we get our degree, unless we really learn enough somewhere. I get the feeling that it's a solid program and you'll become a competent nurse from there. I would definitely start there if I were you. You can always get through the RN portion, then take time off and apply somewhere else for the NP part, right? I wouldn't wait another year on the hope of getting into UCSF. I think you'll be excited to get going on your path, plus you got a good feeling from the place and good responses from students who are going there. You'll figure out your specialty down the road. Also, practical things are more difficult in SF--rents, parking, etc. Isn't Western U off by itself with its own campus? By the way, did you apply anywhere else?

Hi Krissy-- I've been lurking here for a while. I love the title of the entire discussion, because at age 47 I'm in the same boat (without the RN degree or experience). I really want to become an NP, and it does seem like such a long road with a lot of hoops to jump through, especially since a few of the hoops don't interest me too much. It's been great watching the transformation you've gone through--you were so scared about the online program, now you're the STAR of your class!! :balloons: :balloons: I'm applying to direct entry Masters programs, then I'll be looking for an online NP program. I've forgotten which school you're going to--could you please give me the info on it? Thanks and good luck--you're doing great!

Toledo is a Democrat town? Wow, thanks, that helps a lot! (Sorry CGMatt--I can see how you'd be unhappy about that). So there seems to be no one out there who's applying or going to the school...???Anyone out there?

Thanks Renerian and CCGMatt! It helps to hear about the town. I know the program will be challenging, that's why I kind of like the idea of being in a simpler place to not have distsractions. Although great to know about the high restaurant per capita! I thought San Francisco was the highest. Are there any possibilities of healthy, organic food and/or markets? I tend to be more left-wing, alternative, independent, etc. How will that go over in Toledo? Thanks a million!!

Hi Renerian-- Thanks for the Ohio weather report!! The program is with Medical University of Ohio (it used to be called Medical College of Ohio). There's something about the program that appeals to me. The admissions rep has been extremely helpful, as compared to the other programs that are so impersonal and competitive. I almost think leaving everything behind to be able to focus on my studies will be a good idea. The program is 22 months long, which I guess means about 20 months of rain and snow and 2 months of sun???!!! I'm not expecting much out of Toledo itself, or is there anything to do there? Thanks!!

Hi Everyone-- I'm applying to the Medical University of Ohio GEMINI program. It's a Direct Entry MS 2-year (5 semesters) program. Am I crazy to consider moving to Toledo from California?

Hi everyone-- I got my skinny 1-page letter. Well, I'd definitely rather receive the rejection now, than wait and hear in March. I'm surprised, but I also just got a new job that starts Monday running a medical clinic, so maybe I'll turn that into something great without the degree! And of course, it's time to think of other plan B's. All the best to you two!! That's SO exciting!!!

Hi Om, it's never too early. The application process takes a long time, and getting the right experience is crucial. I don't think I have enough. My scores (verbal 690, quantitavie 780)and gpa (3.4 undergrad, 3.8 grad) are great though, so I'm hoping that'll carry me through. Hi Pedroparramo--Did you apply anywhere else?
