:welcome: Hi everyone! I thought it might be a good idea to get our own separate thread for those accepted to Columbia ETP! Sure we have a lot to discuss! I would also like to invite current... Read More

does anybody know when we get housing information? I called like a couple weeks ago and they said they'll be mailed out sometime in March, but it's almost April and I'm getting anxious! especially since we're going to be starting in 2 months (scary!) I'd like to know if I can get on campus housing, otherwise I'll have to look for an apartment. And for those who went to visitor's day, can you give me more details about the dorm? Are they nice, are the rooms ok sized or really tiny, is there a cafeteria inside, etc? anything would be helpful!

    Hi Everyone,

I have a question for any current ETP students that might be reading this. After the first year is over do you get the summer months off and start the MS phase in the fall or do you immediately jump into it in the summer semester?

Also, when do they require you to take the NCLEX?

    Thanks!
If you continue full-time you don't get the summer off, for most of the part-time programs you can choose to take the summer or the fall off. You need to take the NCLEX before you start your clinicals which will be the fall for most of the full-time programs.

The housing director said that they were going to begin housing placements the week of March 19th (this week). I'm assuming we should be receiving info next week...Also, I am pretty sure she said that most people from outside the NY metropolitan area get dorms are able to be placed in dorms for the summer. Regarding the dorms: the rooms are pretty nice and not super small. I don't believe there is a cafeteria but there is a communal kitchen (which I did NOT see). There are communal bathrooms on the floors but each room has a sink in it. There is a small but sufficient gym downstairs. Hope that helps!

I've been assigned to room 324... Looks likes we'll be floor mates! Haven't heard a peep about meal plans... I'm under the impression that they don't exist. I noticed you're from Cali? What part? I'm from San Diego and with the weather today I'm dreading the move out east!

    Hi Everyone,
I am new to posting, but have been reading the threads for awhile now. I am from CA as well and will be attending Columbia's ETP program.

Elle83 and EC215: Congrats on getting housing! I have been waitlisted!!! I'm pretty bummed out about it and worried about what I should do with the housing situation. Let me know if you guys know of any CA students w/my situation.

    Hi all!
I'm so happy I came across this forum! I just skimmed through some of the posts. Haha, they make me both excited and terrified about this summer. MarFromCA--I'm in your boat. I just got the housing information in the mail and I've been waitlisted too I'm really worried about what to do. Does anyone have any insight into how likely it is for waitlister's to end up getting housing?

Hi CA1121. Personal message me! I'd like to know what number you are on the waitlist and maybe if you're interested in searching for housing together.

For the current ETPers: Are there more on-campus housing available in the fall?

    Thanks

Hello, I'll be on the 8th floor. I'm really excited to get to know other people living in the dorm because I'd like to find people to study with, go to the gym with, and cook for/with. I usually do a lot of cooking and I'm sad to lose my kitchen and people to cook for. The question is: will I have time to eat, let alone cook ?!

I'm glad to see things perking up around here!

I was also waitlisted for a dorm room, with a laughably low spot in the list. As in, maybe if all of you turn down your rooms, and then convince a few dozen med students to move out, and then they clean out a Bard Hall broom closet, then maybe I'll get a room. :wink2:

Fellow waitlisters: any gameplans? My packet said we could reapply for fall housing September 4, which seems kind of late. Does anyone know when that group would get to move in?

i called housing services asking about a meal plan and i was sadly told that we aren't given any. i would prefer to cook in a kitchen but as there is only one kitchen for like 200 students i don't know if there will be room for me to cook in the dorm kitchen. what are people's plans on meals? just ordering out every day? that can get expensive. and does anybody know if we're allowed appliances in our rooms? microwaves? cookers? etc?

as for the waitlisted people, try craigslist to find rooms. i was looking there before i got housing and there were some good deals. though there also were expensive ones... it is just for the summer and you can reapply for the fall!

    Hi Everyone,
I've been trying to get a hold of certain people in housing, but they all seem to be out. I spoke with someone from the office and they said that only 30 slots are open for ETPers. I may have misunderstood her. Basically only if some of those people cancel do the waitlisters get housing. Also, she said that even if we reapply we are not guaranteed housing. Best bet she said was to look off-campus. Anyone looking for a roommate or just to talk about housing specifically can Personal Message me.

    Hi BeaconStreet,
I spoke to housing once again and they said that we can reapply September 4 for Fall housing. Depending on what becomes available people are contacted and may be ready to move by October!!! I guess the best bet is to live at an off campus apartment that offers month-to-month rent if you really want on campus housing.
