Is it possible to get a job at CHOP?

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

I really want to work at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. I work nearby and I love the area. I'm not a nurse but I'm studying to be a nurse and I want to start at CHOP to get my foot in the door. Every nurse that I know that works at CHOP appears to be happy. It seems so hard to GET IN. Is it possible to work at CHOP?

Does CHOP only take BSN's?

I believe so. They hire many of the graduates from my school which is a BSN program.

Hi all,

Did anyone who participated in the pipeline interviews in Sept. get any further interviews? I've interviewed with a nurse manager and had a shadow day and haven't heard back at all...

Hey Simply1v...I participated in the pipeline interview in Sept...the lady that interviewed me told me I was going to continue with the process. She had scheduled my second interview twice and has cancelled it due to the unavailability of the nurse manager. So I"m just waiting for them to schedule my second interview. Looks like you're ahead of me in the process. Did you shadow and have your second interview the same day? Also, what floor did you interview for? ...ahh good luck w/ it!

Hi Everyone!!

I am also a new grad from May 2011 and the reason I became a nurse was to one day work at CHOP! It is my lifelong dream and after MONTHS and MONTHS of networking and applying for positions, I finally received an invite to the pipeline interviews next week! I was wondering if those who participated in previous pipelines and who are now employed with CHOP have any advice to offer to relieve some of my anxiety :o I have been dreaming of this day for months, and I know theres going to be about 56 other candidates there throughout the day! I really want to make a lasting impression and prove myself to the talent team and nurse recruiters in order to get a second interview offer. Any advice is GREATLY appreciated!! THANK YOU SO MUCH =)

Specializes in Pediatrics.

One of the nurses I work with at CHOP has her associates, and they hired her. She is a great nurse. She is working on her BSN though and has previous pediatric experience for 1.5 years; so I don't know if they put that into consideration.

@RachRN19, I interviewed for the pipeline at the end of Sept 2011 and was offered a temp med-surg position until May 2012. My advice would be to do research on the hospital, know the definition of family centered care, and have questions yourself to ask to the interviewer. Be interested and engaging. Be able to incorporate past experiences in/out of nursing to respond to their behavioral interview questions. I know for a fact that CHOP only hires BSN grads now as of this month. Hope this helps. Good luck!!!

So I've been avoiding this post since my interview because I didn't want to jinx anything, but I just wanted to say thank you Txm901 and simply1v for the advice! It was hard to be prepared at all for those types of questions but I definitely showed them how interested I was and showed how much research I have done on their institution. I guess it paid off because I just got my 2 week email saying I made the cut! However, its not very detailed and kinda leaves you hanging lol. How long did it take for some of you to get contacted by a recruiter for either a second interview or a temp position? By the way, I hope orientation is going great for you all!

Congrats to you!! I also received the same e-mail saying I made the cut... but yes, i agree that it was not very detailed and 'leaves you hanging' I am wondering if I am supposed to contact the recruiter, since it said that there is not a set timeline for a second interview. Hopefully we will hear soon :) Very exciting!

Yay!!! Congrats to you!! I also wondered the same thing. It says a recruiter will be in touch but I'm sure it doesn't hurt to contact them if some time goes by. This has been the longest two weeks EVER but I'm happy we woke up to some good news!

Out of curiosity, has anyone heard any word of a second interview after receiving the e-mail on the 8th? I sent a follow up email last week and still haven't heard back. Any help would be appreciated :) Also, for former interviewers-- how long did it take to get 'set up' with a unit interview after being notified that you were selected from pipeline applicants? Thanks for helping calm my nerves!!

i would literally give a limb to work at chop.

or something else, very dear to me. Ive applied atleast 60 times, all rejected, im assuming because im a ASN, working toward her BSN. :sigh: if only.

:heartbeat chop, i love you. if you see this. :redbeathe

CHOP knows there are a lot of nurses who think like this. This is why the recruiters are so rude! I myself have applied and one was so rude to me a few years ago. I was asked to interview, then denied an interview because I asked to get back to them about the ONE date they had available to me in a month. Either that one day (which was 3 days away) or one a month later. I then said yes I would be there but was told no, because I didn't put them first they no longer wanted me to come in. Apparently securing a sitter and caring about my own kids is a dealbreaker for them! They know there are so many nurses who want to work there so they think they can treat us badly.
