CCAC Spring 2014 Applicants

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

Applications are due on August 15th so I wanted to start the thread for all of us hoping to get in for the Spring 2014 semester! I'm currently taking Bio 110 (my last pre-req) and will send my application for Allegheny Evenings in on Thursday when my class is over. I have a BSBA already so I have all of the co-reqs done except Micro, A&P 1 &2. I probably won't get in because of it but my GPA is pretty decent so it's worth a shot anyway! Plus, with the changes in the point system it might work out. I'm taking Micro and A&P 1 this fall. I don't plan on applying anywhere else.

Anyone else? What are your stats? What campus did you select? Do you have any questions for the community?

Good Luck!

cole04 - I'm currently in my last pre-req, which is an English class. I have everything else done. I actually live in the South Hills area. The Allegheny Campus worked for me because of my work schedule. Hopefully I can continue to work while in nursing school. Anybody have any insight on that? Congrats to those who got in! Just be patient if you haven't received a letter yet.

Congrats rltrainerjr! i live in the south hills too but work full time downtown. do you mind sharing your GPA with bonus points? if I don't make it in the spring I'm definitely going to apply again in the fall and choose allegheny and south night.

Congrats rltrainerjr!!!!!! I got into the Boyce Campus Daylight Program! As far as working goes I currently work 3 twelves in a hospital every weekend and one day through the week. It can be doable. I know people who done it even with kids. I'm a wife and a mother of 2 children. Given my work schedule and how my life is set up doing the daylight program was best for me.

Congrats rltrainerjr! I hope to be joining your evening Allegheny class this spring and am patiently waiting for that elusive letter!! Cole04, I know how you are feeling and just want to say that I think you will become a nurse regardless what this letter will say, as for everybody on here discussing how to get into this program; all of you have motivated me this year. Hopefully you do begin your journey this semester; I'm hoping the same for me, I totally understand wanting to begin a career as a productive, valuable health care provider and being able to provide for your family as well!! It is a great goal and from what I know from my friends who are nurses, a fullfilling (sometimes stressful) career; and awesome overall! So just focus on that realization and keep working toward that goal, class by class and book by book. I've been waiting to finally apply for about 3 years to have the sciences done, while working full time during the day and some weekends as an EMT to get some clinical experience before the program!! I just kept telling myself that this is what I have to do, so keep doing it until I get there. Good luck to everybody on this thread and I hope to give feedback today about any mail.;)

wmr5- thank you for the encouraging words. I know deep down nothing will stop me from being a nurse. I have dreamed of this my whole life. I sit and think about if something was to happen and I couldn't become a nurse there is absolutely nothing that I can see myself doing nor want to do. I'm a wife, mother of 2, go to school full time and work full time. I have been struggling everyday of my life and know that if I am a nurse that the struggle will be worth it. I just hope God has answered my prayers and my acceptance letter has just taken a different route to my house and it will soon be there!

You are in my prayers cole04. I know that feeling of wanting something so bad and working so hard for it, for it to be taken a way from you. I understand you completely! I'm a mother of two a wife, I'm raising my little sister, I work full time, and I go to school full time. i busted my butt and got A"s in everything. I prayed everyday up until I put my app in and I after. I gave up so much for this. But God has a plan for all of us! And I hope that your wishes fall into his plan, and if not dont give up! The worst failure is giving up! Stick to it! Good luck to you! Best wishes!

I'm new to this thread and congratulations everyone who got accepted. I talked to the nursing advisor the other day and she said. All letters. We're mailed out this week regardless of decision. I unfortunately didn't get accepted or even on the waiting list with a 3.82 gpa after the added points :(

She said that 20 people made the waiting list and I think. She said starting at a 3.88 put you on the waiting list.. So i guess illbtru again next time and in the mean time my next step is to try for st Margarets. I have all classes completed except nursing.

Well, another day and no letter from CCAC. I live in the north hills area of Pittsburgh and I don't think it takes more than a day to get a letter from the Allegheny campus? Waiting patiently, I'll keep everybody posted.

hi everyone. I didn't get in but that it what I expected since I didn't have the bonus points. the letter was dated September 16th. I'm not upset and this doesn't change my outlook on life or desire to be a nurse. it's good to know that unless they change the requirements (again!) I should be able to have my pick of campuses for fall 2014. thanks everyone for their support and for providing their stats so that those of us who don't get in know what our goals and expectations should be :)

For those who asked about my gpa I got a 4.1 for the total with all of the prerequests done except the last English class that I'm currently in now. I just hope I will be able to still work and keep my job. Anyone have news about how many days are class and clinical. ? Hope to meet some new people and maybe some study partners. .

Hello everybody and I have some bad news. I called nursing admissions this morning to inquire about my application status to find out that they did not have my high school transcripts and I was denied on that criteria. I just faxed my high school to expedite the transcript and I then must bring the sealed official copy to the campus; and then must appeal based on my mistake of not submitting a completed nursing application. It was clearly my error in judgement for thinking my BS degree transcripts were sufficient. The office did say that my chances are good due to my perfect score of 6.25; my micro class is 10 years old so the A counts as the .75 bonus value. Wow, I hope to get this minor detail completed and move forward with the process. I have until Sept. 27 to have this completed and then they said it will take some more time with the nursing admissions appeal committee. I'll keep you posted.
