Applicants to Portland area schools

U.S.A. Oregon

Published

Greetings fellow future nurses! I just mailed my application packets for Mt. Hood CC, Clackamas CC, and Portland CC today and excited to be done with them. I have my proctored essay for OHSU this Wednesday and am a little worried because I have NO idea what is going to be asked. I haven't been able to get any feedback on what is on any of the essays. I am also applying to Chemeketa but am probable wasting my time as I am missing 2 of the pre-recs required there that aren't required at the OCNE schools. Well, the worst they can say is no, right?

Anyway, the Oregon Nursing Programs sections has been a little dead lately so I was hoping to spark some dialogue. This is my first year applying and I'm already getting a little stressed. I kind of have a lot riding on getting in somewhere next fall. My fiance and I are kind of planning on it. I'm hoping that doesn't backfire! How's it going with everyone?

CCC's orientation is June 15. I'm a first year nursing student at Clackamas currently. Good luck to all you who have interviews! Getting in is the best feeling. : )

Congrats to everyone! I too feel my heart warm from all the kindness expressed here.Accepted to pcc, waitlisted at ohsu absn. The orientation date given at the essay was June 5th.

Hi Katinthehat,

So how do you like Clackamas? I have heard such great things about it but have not talked to anyone actually IN the program.

Thanks.

Hi everyone :)

I got accepted into PCC's nursing program! :) I didn't get into OHSU, and I'm waiting on clark college and CCC. My interview for CCC is next week. If I get into CCC, I'd go there since it's closer to my house.. so anyone on the waitlist for PCC might have an extra spot open. Once I find out for sure, I'll post it on here so you guys know.

Congrats to those who got accepted or are on the waitlist!!

HELLO ALL!!!

I got into PCC! YAY!!! Congratulations to everyone who got in to a program (yes especially portlandmedic since he started this thread!!!) nwnursing, runnergirl09, ohsuchris, gabrianam (don't worry about being too YOUNG!), rcj2009, emmyers, nrsng4me, and nursearak! and everyone who got waitlisted too! lilpoka, missmichelle, niskagirl! Statistically, you will end up getting an offer. Like emmyers I am still going to my CCC interview and hopefully will secure a spot there as well. I really like to have ALL my choices out then pick so I probably won't lock into some place till I hear back from CCC and Clark.

It was a bit odd from PCC that their letter wasn't personalized.

Hey, just wanted to confirm my wait list letter for PCC was not personalized. The form to be returned to Sylvania's campus had lines for name, G#, date, and wait list number. Mailed my decline yesterday, and I'm assuming the accepted students had a similar form without a wait list spot.

Accepted MHCC

Declined PCC wait list

Waiting on Clark

Still deciding if I will continue the process for advanced placement for LPN to BSN at Walla Walla University

Good luck everyone...one of my favorite posts is from last year when someone was offered a spot at OHSU... who wasn't even on a wait list...he had been declined initially..my fingers are still crossed for everyone!!! :yeah:

No name on letter. So much for the personal touch! Haha.

That's really encouraging niskagirl so thanks! I'm on the waitlist for OHSU right now- got denied for PCC and CCC. and last year I just got straight denied from OHSU. So the first year I'm doing the waitlist thing and I'm really hoping to get that call from OHSU. So of course I'm nervous and anxious about the whole thing and just want to know!

Also, I wonder most people hear they're off the alternate list around June, because that's when most admitted students will have sent in if they're coming or not. I'm thinking its rarer to hear near August it September but I just don't know! And of course the what ifs can drive you crazy :)

Trying to fill in the blanks and compare costs now. Would anyone know the total tuition (roughly) for the following nursing schools:

-CCC

-PCC

-MHCC

-OHSU ($46,499.52 - portland campus)

-LINFIELD ($50,577)

-CLARK ($11,451)

-CONCORDIA ($23,200 a year)

-GEORGE FOX ($36,590)

Can't find CCC, PCC, or MHCC.

Also, I found the costs for the other schools on their websites. Hopefully I did the calculations correctly. Please correct me if you see an error.

NurseLaura11- try this website and choose Oregon from the map and then find the school in the list. Hope this helps a little.

Thanks all who responded about the unpersonalized letters. I feel much better now. Sending in my acceptance today and I think I'm going to decline my interview at CCC. Haven't decided yet. I've been waiting so long to get in, I just want to jump on the opportunity, plus CCC is a little farther for me.

In response to nurseLaura, I know PCC is $82 credit and there's 60 Nursing credits + 45 general ed/nursing electives. So roughly $9000 not including books and less than that if you have an Associate's already and just need to do the nursing credits. I thought Linfield was a bit more than you listed...like around $70,000, but I could be wrong.

Nurselaura, (ie, costs!)

Yes, I was just looking at costs for PCC last night too. It's part of the reason I did NOT apply to OHSU, it was just too expensive for three years there (I really only qualify for the regular BSN program, I had a poor undergrad GPA, but I have 4.0 for all my nursing prereqs...). I figured total tuition costs plus books for me would be about $7000. I have a BS already so I just need to take the nursing courses. I think I figured MHCC was about $10,000 or $11,000 but that sounds too high now comparing with PCC. IDK anything about costs at CCC... looks like I'll research that next... Oh and BTW, as I look into costs, many scholarships require you prove you are in a program but the deadlines have already passed (or coming soon!) Ok, Good luck!
