Developing ambidexterity ?

Anyone have any tips and advice how to become more ambidextrous with regards to scrubbing and assisting ?

I know its one of those things that improves with time (and partially is genetic) but I figure thats got to be some of self training/improvement that I could work on in my free time ?

Im sure theres random stuff on the internet I could google, but I wasnt sure if anyone knew of anything specifically catered for people in the OR

When I scrubbed open heart the very cranky cardio thoracic surgeon would tell us to eat and do stuff we normally do with our dominant hand with our nondominant hand. He said they were forced to in residency.

I practiced to become proficient using the computer mouse with my left hand.

It's actually more efficient for me, cuz I can use the computer with the left and write with the right.

Agree, perhaps get some old instruments and practice with them using the left hand.

Eat and brush your teeth with your left hand. That will help some.

Yeah - elementary school in the 60s was miserable because of them trying to force right-handedness upon us lefties!

Get a splint or sling for your dominant hand/arm. Wear it off duty.
