OHSU BSN Fall 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi all I just thought I would start this, since there doesn't appear to be anything started for the Fall 2017 3 year BSN at OHSU. Feel free to update as you get emails regarding interviews, acceptances, etc. This week it looks like everyone should be hopefully getting a email hearing something if they are chosen for a interview. I wonder if due to the lack of any posts for the Fall 2017 that means that competition isn't as fierce as in prior cycles... this is probably not the case. But it seems like the cohort has been alot more quite then in the past.

Thank you both! I guess since I have had IVs that ended up feeling like someone took a jackhammer to my arm I worry about doing the same. Particularly I worry about the elderly with no fat and paper skin! But I feel confident that I will get it! I too am older but my kids are going to all be graduated from high school so I am looking forward to maybe some time to do extra activities...we will see!

I would expect to get started right away. I know a few people that thought that they could kind of take it slow in the beginning and it ended up biting them in the butt. Don't stress too much. It's hard and it's a big workload but they set you up to succeed and everyone is really helpful! The best thing I've EVER done is being at OHSU and the best thing that has happened to me was meeting all the people who have become an awesome support system for me. I don't know if anything that bad has happened to me but the second term I had some family things and then I let myself far pretty far behind. Theres a large workload but it's doable. I am a single mom with a four year old and I haven't struggled too badly.

I'm so glad to heard you're a single mom and it isn't impossible. My daughter is almost 2 and I'm SO nervous about balancing the workload

There are quite a few of us with kids! It's totally doable and you got this far, you can totally do It!

I still haven't even sent in my deposit and acceptance letter yet because I'm THAT nervous about it. I take my daughter to work with me currently, I've never had to leave her with anyone really.. I just envision drowning in homework and never seeing her again!

I was the same. My daughter wasn't in daycare at all until I started school. We still have time to go and do things and play. Around midterms and finals she spends more time with family so I can study without feeling neglectful. Haha. It's working out okay. Last term was harder. It's been much better than I thought. She's in preschool/daycare Monday through Friday and I pick her up and drop her off at different times on different days. I try to get most of my work done while she's in daycare or after she goes to sleep so I can focus on her on the weekends.

For those of you that are in school, what books were you able to find online? If you could share a link that would be awesome so we all can save some money. Thanks

@dontwantnoscrubs is the master for free online books. I don't think you can share links over this? But he should be able to help you out! I'll message him and ask him to share.

The best place to look is http :// gen . lib . rus . ec (no spaces). Also, once you start at OHSU, through your personal OHSU login you can go to http:// alliance-primo.hosted. exlibrisgroup.com /primo_library/ libweb/ action/ search.do (again no spaces) which is a site linked to the OHSU library which allows you to download a lot of other textbooks as full PDFs. Once you get your OHSU email login, you can use those credentials to access that last site mentioned and sort by ebooks. Actually, before you even get your login, you can search for books on that site and see which ones you'll be able to access later for free as ebooks. Not all, but many of the ebooks shown on there will allow you to easily download them as PDFs or in similar formats.

These two sites are insanely helpful and you can begin to collect PDF resources that are really helpful (e.g. nursing care plan books) and many of the required course texts as well. FWIW, I purchased the electronic elsevier / vitalsource ebook bundle (contains patho, pharm, concepts for nursing practice, health assessment for nursing practice, and health promo throughout the lifespan required course texts) for I think ~ $350, and I don't regret doing so. Other than that I haven't bought any other textbooks for OHSU and I don't anticipate having to buy any more throughout the rest of the program.

Thank you very much!Appreciate this a lot. With 4 kids I can use all the savings I can.

Thank you SO much for sharing your experience so far! It's really helping me believe that this is doable!
