Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi Everyone,

Hope that all is well. I am glad that I came across this forum as I have been researching nursing programs and schools for the past 4 months now and I am totally confused!!!

Just to give some background on myself. I have a BA in education. I taught High School History (many years ago) and have been home since as as stay at home mom of 4 beautiful little angels. I have decided to go back to school and get a second degree in Nursing (my main love). I live in Florida and I have been searching the programs from the community colleges (which have approx a 2year wait) to private colleges (some have a 20 month wait or the others are very expensive 50k). I recently came across Kaplan University and their online ADN program here in Florida. I was wondering if anyone was in this program and had some info.

The program works great for me since the classes are all online (because I still have one little one home here with me) and than I am being told that the clinicals are 2 times a week (local) for 10 hours a week.

I am just very nervous about different things that I am hearing in regards to NLN accredited, BIN accredited etc. I just want to make sure that I can do the program, complete Kaplans' requirements and than be able to sit for the NCLEX. The tuition is about 25k. It is a bit higher than the cc but I can get in and start this March 09 and be done in 14 months. This is also good for me because all of the other programs require 2 years of full time (8am-4pm) (Mon-Fri)

Sorry for going on, I just have so many questions and I want to make sure that I am making the right choice with Kaplan before I go any further. Thanks so much for any help that you can offer. Good luck and take care:)

Hey guys I also started the program on Feb, I'm having difficulty transferring A and P as well. My advisor said to re-take it, since I took it in 2004. I guess I could use a refresher. I'm registered in Pharm next term and A and P...hope to see you there :coollook:

hey, I thought there was a time frame when you were able to transfer credits from years ago? I read somewhere, although it may be different for different schools but it's still good to ask :that classes you took and received credit for were transferable until ten years. so if you took a and p in 2004, it's still good until 2014 because that's ten years. also my problem for transferring a and p 1 and 2 were that my catalog description from new york didnt match kaplan's catalog description but I know I took the same exact courses in 2007. So i had to get course syllabus (outline) from each course from the same year and term such as spring 2007 and summer 2007. I had called NY and was in contact with them for 3 weeks and they kept saying oh the girl is out today, or she went home early or they couldn't mail it out of state even though they had my number to call me and tell me that, and that they couldn't it send it to my email because it has an underscore lol. i got all excuses until one day i was like i need it, and they finally said they could email it three weeks later even though i asked them to email it to me three weeks earlier. in the end they gave me what i wanted because i kept calling three to four times that day to tell them they sent the wrong one and things like that. lol it is pretty tough when you're a transfer student but it gets better, at least i hope. so we could all use a refresher but if u really want to go for it, call your school's biology dept, that's who i called and tell them u need it ASAP for college credit. if they can email u the syllabus or fax it over from the same course and year and term that would be so great! there isn't any reason they cant help you.

i only encourage you because i was devastated when it didn't transfer and i so badly just want to be nurse! i dot want to wait any longer to take classes i already took and passed. =)

if u know you took it and it matches exactly the KU catalog description, go for it. i use many websites and have those quick study guides u can get from the college book stores that have nursing courses to review body systems. Good luck on your decision!

Vindy,

Thank you for giving me some direction as to what can be done. I will look into it, thank you.:)

you're welcome. also once you get that, you should attach and email it to [email protected] directly. they transferred my credits the very next day! i don't know if there is a deadline with kaplan though as for when credits are supposed to be transferred but you have ur transcripts in already so ???

Good Luck with everything, I hope it all works out.

If I am not mistaken the last day to tansfer credit was the end of the first term.

Kaplan University ADN Program In South Florida

I am a student in this program now. I am one of the students who is at the end of the program. Do not take anything that this school says for face value. I regret being in this program greatly. I am at the end of the program only to be told that I haven't recieved the hours and education I was suposed to recieve. Now they are scrambling to cram two years of missing curriculum and all of the information they failed to giive me in ten weeks. If I could transfer my creditis and finish at Broward College or Dade College I would. I have been through so many changes and ups and downs that the name Kaplan repulses me. I was once optimistic and excited about this program but they have not held thier promises or end of the bargain. To think ...all of this trouble only to be a graduate of a school with a 50% board passing rate and no accrediation. Procede with great caution when thinking about this school. Get everything and I mean EVERYTHING in writing. The best advice of all that I wish would have recieved myself would be to save yourself the extra 30,000 + in loans and go to a community college. Look up Kaplan University and thier recent article about the the pembroke pines campus and not being allowed to accept more students for certain programs.

Is this the same Kaplan, that holds the $500 Kaplan RN review:uhoh3: ? With a RN pass rate of only 50%... No way...

Yes it is. Ironic isn't it!

Yes, but this is a pilot program that apparently anyone can open under the Kaplan name. The pass rate for the students who take the Kaplan Review is 98% overall & the passrate for the program in Sandiego is also high. Its just this new program in Florida that is giving Kaplan a bad name.
