**need help** kaplan online adn program in florida

Published

Hi Everyone,

Hope that all is well. I am glad that I came across this forum as I have been researching nursing programs and schools for the past 4 months now and I am totally confused!!!

Just to give some background on myself. I have a BA in education. I taught High School History (many years ago) and have been home since as as stay at home mom of 4 beautiful little angels. I have decided to go back to school and get a second degree in Nursing (my main love). I live in Florida and I have been searching the programs from the community colleges (which have approx a 2year wait) to private colleges (some have a 20 month wait or the others are very expensive 50k). I recently came across Kaplan University and their online ADN program here in Florida. I was wondering if anyone was in this program and had some info.

The program works great for me since the classes are all online (because I still have one little one home here with me) and than I am being told that the clinicals are 2 times a week (local) for 10 hours a week.

I am just very nervous about different things that I am hearing in regards to NLN accredited, BIN accredited etc. I just want to make sure that I can do the program, complete Kaplans' requirements and than be able to sit for the NCLEX. The tuition is about 25k. It is a bit higher than the cc but I can get in and start this March 09 and be done in 14 months. This is also good for me because all of the other programs require 2 years of full time (8am-4pm) (Mon-Fri)

Sorry for going on, I just have so many questions and I want to make sure that I am making the right choice with Kaplan before I go any further. Thanks so much for any help that you can offer. Good luck and take care:)

I to researched Kaplan school of nursing, and found that their BA in nursing is accredited by the proper body, which is CCNE. But the associate nursing program is not accredited by NLNAC. However, their, Associate of Science in Nursing program has received provisional approval from the Florida Board of Nursing. Which means you should no problem getting your license in Florida, where you live. Provisional status just mean its a new program, and so many of their students have to successfully pass the boards, before they can be granted full approval. Just to be sure, I would call the Fl BON. Also, what area of Fl do you live in. Its was about a year ago when I checked into this program, and Back then, the nurse recruiter was telling me, that the school is only in the Miami area. Althrough most of all the book work is online, you do have to attend lab on campus. And do clinical's at Miami area hospitals. Hopes this helps. I know kaplan has good programs, because my husband does online classes with them. Thats how I found out about the nursing program.

i just started at kaplan Jan. 7th, the classes look easy so far. you should have no problems.

Hi

Thanks so much for your responses.. I really appreciate it!

LadyLex45 I have a question since you are currently in the program: I know that the classes are online however, what do they do about the clinicals. Is it true that you do 10 hours a week of clinicals? Also where do they have you go to do them? Thanks again so much for your help. Good Luck and keep me posted on your progress if you dont mind.

I havent started the clinicals yet so i dont know - but from hearsay its only 2 days a week
