Itt tech-Breckinridge possible shutdown

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I need advice/guidance. Im currently enrolled in Itt tech Breckinridge school of nursing class of 2017. I'm completing med surg 1 next week. In the media today I've read several articles stating Itt may be shut down because they have lost all federal funding and are no longer able to accept new students who need federal aid (so basically they'll go into bankruptcy). Last month we lost our Dean. Our assistant dean resigned yesterday. And the recruiter's last day was Monday. Their credits won't transfer. Our school has no update for us and states they are awaiting the director to take the next step-whatever it may be. The articles online state the schools would refund the money we paid or set up an agreement with a school. The school itself has not commented on this. Im a little upset we weren't notified and had to find this out from the media and a year has been wasted of our time if no school accepts our credits. Last thing I want to do is start over. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I called the school myself. They state that they have no idea what is going on, and that they think the Breckinridge campuses might be spared. This seems to be affecting the other programs with ITT Tech. I am so pissed, as I turned down other programs to attend this school. I spoke to the receptionist, and she stated to hang tight and the school will let us know what is going on; as even they are in the dark as to what will happen to the nursing program.

Specializes in GENERAL.
I don't think it is being shut down. I just started the program in Canton, and received an email stating that the government is forcing them to make changes to the program. It stated in the email that we would hear and that it will affect next semester.

Oh, no. It's closing. Don't be deluded. It's over. Go to the Department of Education site and see why. Get them to return your money/ loan now before they declare insolvency and shutter the place. After that it's too late.

I am beyond pissed at them. They had us come in for orientation on the 25th and then were hit with this on the 26th. I think I can get my loan dissolved, as I haven't even started classes. From what I read, they are closed on Tuesday. I am not paying for a semester of tuition for a school that I didn't even attend. I spend the better part of the afternoon crying, and then applying to other programs like crazy.

I am a graduate of ITT Tech and I can tell you my classmates and I had no trouble finding employment within the healthcare system. Yes I agree it is a scam school but once you have take your NCLEX hospitals really don't care where you got your ADN from. The only issue I ran into was trying to transfer my credits to a University when I went to complete my BSN.

CanadianAbroad I called the school myself. They state that they have no idea what is going on, and that they think the Breckinridge campuses might be spared. They are done for sure. A former teacher from there told me that's why she's looking for another job.

There was a press release from ITT, they are officially closing all campuses and programs, offering no teach out to other programs and not starting the new semester. I went to ITT for 3 quarters and saw the writing on the wall, left and transferred to an accredited institution. No nursing credits will transfer anywhere, so I had to retake a few classes but all is good, I have 3 semesters left, I'll have my BSN. I know people at the ITT where I am, going into their last semester and now won't graduate, credits mean nothing, have a high tuition bill and will have to retake everything at another school.

Breckinridge students haven't received an email of the closure and their sites are still up for Breckinridge only. Very odd.

So I came back to read the comments because I knew the negativity would be real. It's saddens me to see people attack others who choose institutions to best fit their needs that's how it was for me. When my local community college did me in. Anyway..... So yesterday was a trying day because it was the day my class names were to be sent to the state and they were for sure. I'm not going into details on how I know, and that's not possible because the school was closed. I was there and I got my transcripts so did my classmates. Thank God. To top it off I helped my classmates behind some of them get letters signed to test out for LPN again I'm not going into that, but it's a special form required by the state to be signed by the school. I did a lot of leading yesterday and hell of alot fighting. That's just me though.

I am am thankful Application put into the state, fingerprints are getting done this morning, NCLEX will be paid soon and yes I still have my job waiting bloop bloop. :cheeky:

As as for the poster I am so sorry this all happened. This school was 50 years old so it was a great school in some areas. Unfortunately cooperate got very greedy and instead of putting the monies into the school they let the little people take the big hit. Never give up on nursing. If you read my previous posts I fought tooth and nail to the very end literally. If I find out more info I would be willing to share. To anyone. I can't even be happy really because this is so emotionally. I made great relationships with people behind me and I feel so sad. í ½í¸°
