Thank you so much for being so open and helpful. I just have a couple of questions. Where do most ABSN students live? Do they live around Georgetown or in different parts of town? Also, is there a way that you can buy sets of nursing books from previous students? Finally, what is the Patho professor like from what you've heard?
Sorry for not answering your message sooner.
Since the ABSN students come from all over, they live all over. Some live in DC close to campus. Pricey, but convenient to classes. If you're a WHC scholar, some students live conveniently commutable to WHC. Some students are already locals, so they commute from VA or MD, if they're close to a decent bus line or the Metro. For instance, I'm a local who already owned my own condo in the VA burbs. But I'm fortunate that my community has a private shuttle service that takes people to the nearest Metro station, and I commute from there. When I have clinicals at hospitals off campus, I drive there for convenience. Some people car pool.
GU is not on any of the Metro lines (long story), so the campus runs shuttle buses to/from two Metro stations: Rosslyn (on the Blue line), and DuPont Circle (on the Red line). So if you can get to Metro, you can get to school. WHC also runs shuttle buses to a nearby Metro station.
Yes, you can offer to buy books from students in previous semesters, usually graduating seniors. You may not get the latest edition of a textbook, but that's usually not a big deal. Many students in the middle of the program won't sell their books, because they hold onto them to use as references when studying for the NCLEX. You can nowadays buy used books on Half.com or Amazon, and Chegg also rents textbooks.
You are exceedingly fortunate that the Patho instructor, Dr. Garman, is a total ROCK STAR. He is the best professor I've had at GU. No matter how you slice it, Patho is hard - but he is a great teacher. He started teaching Patho the semester I started in the ABSN program, and I hear his predecessor was a terror. :-)
