  1. Here's the link to the application packet for AZ licensure by endorsement. http://www.azbn.gov/Documents/applications/App%20Packet%20Downloads/RN%20LPN%20Endorsement%20Packet.pdf This is the link to the licensing page for AZ. Arizona State Board of Nursing | Applications Hope that helps.
  2. The AZ board of nursing is pretty good with getting you a license. I applied mid April and had my license by the beginning of June. I also submitted my fingerprints with my license application though. Arizona is a compact state, so if you have any other licenses in other compact states that might hold you over until the AZ license comes through. If you pay extra, I think there's also an expedited option to get your AZ license. Banner homehealth is hiring. I've not worked for them, but they are one of the largest home health agencies in Phoenix. I would be curious to find out more about Banner home health from anyone who has worked with them.
  3. If it makes any difference, its sunny and 75 degrees outside in the beginning of February, rent is cheap and the people are friendly.
  4. How does she like working for Banner Home Health? I was considering applying. Did they provide her with sufficient training and orientation time?
  5. I submitted an application towards the end of April with my fingerprint card on the same day and just received my permanent license last week. They said that from the time that your fingerprints are submitted it takes about 4-6 weeks.
  6. The Georgetown and WHC program has been discontinued for future classes probably related to sequestration and budget cuts. However, the hospital will complete it's commitment to current classes. You can switch units after you are hired, although there are certain criteria you have to meet before you can switch and you most likely won't be able to switch until a year and a half after you are hired. Furthermore, in order to switch, you will have to do a bridge program. If you do a bridge program i.e. bridge to ICU, ED, PACU, LD, NICU etc., this will add another year of commitment to WHC. So if you start off with floor nursing and switch to to ICU or NICU halfway through your commitment, you'll have a total of 4 years commitment to working for WHC because you can not fulfill work commitments concurrently. If you do the bridge program and leave before your commitment is up, then you will owe the hospital 5,000 leaving. If you don't plan on leaving or breaking your contract, then you have nothing to worry about. Just read your contract closely when they send it to you and make sure you agree to all the terms. Hope this helps.
  7. I hope everyone was able to make their final decisions. Are any of you coming from out of town? What are you guys planning for housing?
  8. It's a really well thought out program from what I know of it. Some of the problems with BSN-MSN programs is the lack of experience, but this program really integrates the experience component into the program so that once you graduate, you not only have an MSN, but the experience to go with it. The hospitals where you will be placed have some form of tuition reimbursement in exchange for a work commitment, although I'm not quite sure how much they cover. I really like the program because it is pretty much a stable job at some stellar hospitals, work experience and an MSN to go with. Its always reassuring to know that you'll have a way of paying off the student loans, although they will be hefty for the first year. My interactions with the admissions committee has been nothing but positive and they work really hard to make sure that this program will be a good fit for you. I would say one of the most important things to think about is whether you can commit to the role of a CNS and whether that's a good fit for you. You don't have to commit to a specialty yet, which is kind of nice and your preceptors will work with you to help you discern what that may be. The other nice part about this is that your BSN classes count towards your masters as well so instead of taking pharmacology and graduate pharmacology, you would just take the graduate pharmacology class. One of the pre-reqs that have been giving people trouble though is the graduate biostatistics class. They will accept an undergraduate stats class for that this time around though. However, in the future, I think it will be required. If you want to take the graduate biostats class, look into local graduate schools and the process for taking the class as a non-matriculating or non-degree student. This will allow you to take the class without having to be accepted to graduate school. I hope that helps.
  9. Congratulations Alex and Joe! Its such a huge relief to just finally know! I'll be seeing you guys there come January. Good luck with your decision bernbabybern. There's also scholarships at the Georgetown University Hospital that you could apply for as well. It's just something to consider.
  10. Anyone know when we might find out about WHC? I hope interviews went well for everyone.
  11. Does anyone know anything about Washington Hospital Center or Suburban Hospital?
  12. Is anyone going on the 21st?
  13. Thank you so much for being so open and helpful. I just have a couple of questions. Where do most ABSN students live? Do they live around Georgetown or in different parts of town? Also, is there a way that you can buy sets of nursing books from previous students? Finally, what is the Patho professor like from what you've heard?
  14. I'm coming from Arizona. Not quite as cool as Hawai'i or So Cal, but we have our own southwestern sunshine. Congrats to everyone who got in. I can't wait to meet everyone.
  15. I'm coming from Arizona. Not quite as cool as Hawaii and So Cal, but I still have the laid back sunshine charm despite all our crazy laws. According to the schedule, we should hear about the scholarships by mid-October, so I would say within the next week or so. I am crossing my fingers for the scholarship. I love the DC area and am super excited about prospect of spending four years there. Congratulations to everyone who got in!
