Galen College and RN to BSN

Hello all!

I'm looking for some insight from anyone who can offer some up on this subject.

I graduated from Galen in 2011 with my ADN. I've been working in the acute health care setting now for a couple years and want to advance into my BSN. I've been looking into several different programs (I can only do full online programs) to go into. My ultimate goal would be Texas Tech with UT Arlington right behind in 2nd choice. My last choices would be Grand Canyon Univ., or Phoenix. And this is mostly bc of cost.

Now, I chose Galen bc I didn't have the pre-req's and at the time it was easier to just lump it all into one through Galen's program. Thus, I'm not 100% positive what all credits a program like Tech or UTA would even take.

All this to say, I'm wondering if any other Galen grads have gone to UTA or Tech being in the same situation I'm in? Even though Phoenix or GCU is pricey, is it all together cheaper to just go with them, instead of having to do full pre-req's through the community college here and then transfer to TTU or UTA?

The hospital system I work for has not initiated that ADN's start getting their BSN's, but I can imagine it's coming. So I'm not rushed to get the coursework done, but I'm just struggling to find the cheapest, most efficient way of getting this done.

If anyone has any insight on this, I would love to hear from you and your experiences.

Galen is not regionally accredited, so transferability of coursework will likely be an issue.

I know someone who completed an unaccredited ASN program at a school similar to Galen. She was able to complete her BSN degree online through Western Governors University for less than $10k. They granted her en bloc credit for all courses completed at the unaccredited school's nursing program.

I was also going to suggest WGU - all prereqs could be taken there as well. I just graduated from there, great program - and fully accredited.

I graduated from Galen (cincinnati) it is regionally accredited so almost all the schools around take our credits now. Was the one you graduated from regionally accredited? I was looking into Grand Canyon too they give Galen students a discount, but I'm still not sure where I'll go.

I know this is an old post, but Galen is regionally accredited now (June 2013- SACS),and they do have an articulation agreement with UTA. i believe they actually have about 25 articulation agreements in place at the present time.

Do you know which schools have the agreements? I've personally only found about 5 schools that for sure will accept transfer credits.

Upon further research the previous post is correct since acquiring the SACS accreditation I've found that transferring not to be as difficult as it was in the past. I'm applying to UTA and Concordia University Texas both schools stated they would be no problem with the transfer. I've also contacted Schreiner University as well who said the would accept the transfer. All 3 are fully accredited.

Update to my previous post I applied and was accepted to all three colleges. I chose Schreiner University due to it requiring the least amount of hours for me to graduate.
