  1. Do you have a BSN? A lot of hospitals are getting pretty picky about wanting a BSN and atleast 1 year experience (atleast here in ohio) I am a new RN also I got my license in August. I am going to work in a longterm/skilled facility for my first year and go back for my BSN then try to find work in a hospital!
  2. Don't let your nerves get the best of you, go in thinking positive. Try to find some nclex test taking strategy tips. It can really help you figure out how to narrow down the right choice! Remember with priorities to keep in mind what's normal for the disease the pt has your not necessarily going to see a patient first if their s/s are expected for the disease they have. I was taught that in a review course and it helped me so much with priority questions!
  3. She was brave! I agree with some others though, you could have been friendlier to her! Had she not been a student would you have greeted her in the same manor? She is right though, some nurses are so nasty to students! Some really get on my nerves (students) but I try to stay polite and remember we where all students at one time!
  4. Have you ever thought of teaching nursing?
  5. Thanks! How long is it going to take you to finish?
  6. If your heart is set on nursing go to Galen. I went to Galen cincinnati, it wasn't the best but I did the bridge program it may be better for the day students.
  7. I was looking into that program. Please post how you like it.
  8. I don't know where your at but around where I am hospitals don't hire LPNs. Some places do want the nurse to be from accredited school but I know a lot of girls that graduated from not accredited schools that still got jobs in hospitals. A lot of hospitals want BSNs also so if you finish your RN program get into an accredited BSN program and it won't matter as much that your RN school wasn't accredited they will look at your BSN school. I graduated from a school that was not nationally accredited and a girl that works at a local hospital said wants I get my BSN they wouldn't care.
  9. I graduated from Galen (cincinnati) it is regionally accredited so almost all the schools around take our credits now. Was the one you graduated from regionally accredited? I was looking into Grand Canyon too they give Galen students a discount, but I'm still not sure where I'll go.
  10. Finish and be an RN if you really wanna work in LTC do it as an RN you will make more money. Working in longterm care is not going to give you more time to spend with your patients though at times I had 32 patients. They may not be high acuity like in the hospital but you have 6 times as many to pass meds and do treatments on.
  11. I went to LPN school when I was 19 finished when I was 20 and when I got out it was kind of hard for me! I was younger then most of my CNA's by a good almost 10 years for most, so they didn't like taking orders from me. There where also family members that looked at me like I was just a kid! You are no where near old your age will probably benifiet you! I finished LPN school with a woman who was like 60 and girls in my RN class where in their upper 40's. If nursing a what you want to do, do it!
  12. I did review questions on exam cram. I heard mark Klimek was a good review course but I couldn't take it, so I went on Google and found some review cards on quizlet based on his review course, I really felt like the test taking strategies on those cards helped a lot it really helps you narrow down the right answer.
  13. I finished school the end of June and did not get my ATT until August 12th, I did not study at all in that time! I took my test on the 16th of August and in those 4 days I did some review question, and I passed my test with 75 questions. A good friend of mine finished school around the same time as me and took her boards about 2 weeks after me didn't study and she got all 265 questions and failed though. She was the type to never study during school and get A's. There where girls in my class and her class that studied hard and still failed it too though! I would say atleast do review questions and go over some test taking strategies.
  14. I would call your board of nursing but there is a good chance you can get licensed if you can show the changes you have made . They may want you to sign a consent form and do some monitoring on you for a certain time period. And if you get your license as long as u are not on a probationary period you should be able to apply for a license in CA, if you do have a probationary period you will have to wait til it's over before applying for licensure in another state.
