CSUSM ABSN Summer 2016

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I thought I would start a thread for CSUSM's ABSN Summer 2016 Nursing Program - for anyone who's taking pre-requisites, has applied to or is in the process of applying, and for support to those who become accepted (to connect with each other). I am from ABSN Cohort 19....good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

Also, I recently wrote an article https://allnurses.com/nursing-study-tips/from-one-student-1020425.html with many study tips and suggestions for nursing school. I hope you find it helpful. Please share it or leave comments!! :)

P.S. The CSUSM's General Scholarship application usually opens up early January and is usually due early March. You do not have to be accepted in to the School of Nursing to apply at that time but you do need to have a CSUSM Id number (so if that's where you did your undergrad work, you are golden). I mention this because I encourage you to apply if there is a good chance you will be there during Fall/Spring to receive aide. This is what happened to me...I applied for the General Scholarship in January (at the time I was just finishing my pre-req's) because I was hoping by Fall I would be accepted...and I was (I got in during summer)! I received 3 scholarships totaling >$3500 but would not have gotten them if I didn't apply in advance. So do it just in case. Here is the link CSUSM General Scholarship | CSUSM Scholarship Opportunities | Financial Aid & Scholarships | CSUSM to check out Jan 2016.

Hi! I recently applied for the Summer 2016 cohort! Keeping my fingers crossed! Has anyone heard back from them regarding an evaluation? And if so, how long did it take for them to send you an evaluation after you submitted your application?

Also thank you achurley for starting this thread!!

Thank you achurley for starting this thread and sharing the information about the scholarship! I applied on 10/6 so I'm also keeping my fingers crossed. I'll definitely apply to that General Scholarship Application! As far as hearing back regarding an eval purvee48, I have not heard anything back from them except asking for an outstanding transcript that I thought I sent. I'll be sure to leave a comment as soon as I get more correspondence from them though.

Good, I'm glad you found it helpful. I intend to write an article with scholarship advice and links to helpful nursing scholarships, so I will post a link to that article when I get around to it...probably after finals (mid to end Dec).

I am planning to apply but I don't know if I would get into the Summer session as I have just requested transcripts.

Also does anyone know if CSUSM finds W's on transcripts really unfavorable? Did you guys have any W's?

Thank you achurley! You're awesome, good luck on your finals!!!

@Pigeons, I would still try and apply as the app is still open. The thing I like about CSUSM is that they admit summer, fall, and spring. As for as W's on transcripts go, I have a W for Anatomy & Physiology I and I retook Microbio. Both retakes resulted in A's. But i'm still worried as those two are really important prereqs. I'm guessing if there's an excessive history of W's (maybe 4 or more?) on your transcript, that may not be favorable.

Do any of you know if you just need to get a certain amount of points to be given admission? On their point system, I calculated 39 points. I hope that's enough considering the three previously admitted cohorts had an average of around 30 points.

@ pigeons I'm sorry that I'm not familiar with their policy for W's (I never had one myself) but if you are local, their next absn information session is on main campus on Dec 11th. That is helpful for answering those type of questions. I suggest applying now because you application stays open for an entire year. Some people also drop out last minute/don't pay their intent to enroll fee and they take whoever has the highest points next in their place

@KO_1219 39 seems competative, I think I had a 41

@purvee48 my evaluation took 6 weeks to arrive after I applied

Hey @achurley, thanks for the information about the scholarship. I was recently "conditionally admitted" to the ABSN program for Summer 2016. Has anyone else heard back yet?

Congrats @gyp13sy :) !!! I have not heard anything back yet. Did they send you correspondence through postal mail? E-mail?

Thanks @KO_1219! I received the acceptance through e-mail on Nov. 25th.

@gyp13sy You're most welcome! I'm excited for you and for the rest of us knowing that we may hear soon. I didn't know they started dishing out acceptances already. Did they send you an evaluation of your point total as far as your point totals for admission or just the acceptance email? Is CSUSM your first choice?
