The nursing program looking rather short.

Has anyone attended this school? Is it good, bad, okay??

After the spring semester I'll have all of my pre reqs done and out of the way to apply to the ADN program. Except for Pathology. I'll be taking that over the summer. So the only courses I'll have is the 8 NUR courses which can be completed in like two or three semesters. I talked to someone at the school and they say that there are more slots available for the ADN than the BSN. More people are choosing the BSN.

For the BSN track, I have not taken Statistics, Computer, Humanities or College Algebra. I see they have a lot of computer classes

I had counted 18 NUR courses for the BSN track, why would that take 3 years? Wouldn't it take less than that?

There are more slots for the ADN? I never wouldve guessed that...everyone else told me that more people went the ADN route, but oh well I guess it doesnt matter now. Im not sure why their BSN program is 3 years after completing all the pre reqs, I was talking to someone else about that on Facebook and we were both puzzled (she starts in the 2nd yr of the program too). It may be because they dont offer summer courses for the nursing courses. Here is what my program schedule looks like that they sent me:

This fall: CHM 111, NUR 250 and clinical, NUR 270 (CHM is the only pre req I dont have completed)

This spring: NUR 260 and clinical, NUR 290

Next Fall: NUR 320 and clinical, NUR 340 and clinical, NUR 361

Next spring: NUR 310 and clinical, NUR 330, NUR 350 and clinical, NUR 362

Last Yr Fall: NUR 410 and clinical, NUR 420 and clinical, NUR 430

Last Yr Spring: NUR 440, NUR 450, NUR 470, NUR 480

Not sure why its three years but it is, I know most BSN programs are only two years though. There is also the three religion courses that are required for the BSN program but Im just going to try and do those during the summer...

I was told that less people go the ADN evenings/weekend route and that there are still about 9-11 slots left.

Maybe that's why. Also, if you take about 2 classes a semester it would take about 3 years.

I was considering the BSN, but the extra classes like Computers and more Math is making me shy away from it. Have you taken any of the Computer classes there? Were they really hard? How about the professors?

I havent taken any classes there yet, I wont until the fall so I dont know about the professors. But I can tell you that the computer class required isnt hard at all. You can take it this summer at any community college and it should transfer over. The comp class is just an overview of Microsoft office and basic computer skills that Im sure you already know.

I graduated from Mercy, May 2009. I had a great experience there. It is a small school, but I liked that. We were a nice little group. You have to be willing to work hard. Mercy is very strict on their grading, but its for a reason. They really do prepare you for NCLEX! My class had a 100% pass rate on the first try.

we lost alot of people as the semesters went by for various reasons, but the ones who worked hard did fine.

I applied in April and was accecpted that July, but that was before UT lost their ADN program and all the accreditation problems with Owens, so there might be alot more applicants now.It really is a great school with a great reputation in the area. All your clinicals are done in Mercy hospitals which is nice.

They also accepted all of my credits from another school which covered all nmy prereqs.

They admissions can set you up with student housing right down the street, but I recommend looking a little farther from the inner city. But pretty much anywhere you live in Toledo or surrounding areas will take no more than 30 minutes to get to the school.

I have a quick question...What is their grading scale? Ive heard a couple times that they have a hard scale but have never thought to ask what it was. I know for some schools that a 75-76% is the passing grade but have heard that Mercy's is harder than that...

You must get an 80% which is a C. This is for everything, prereqs included!

Well thank God I already have all the pre reqs completed. Well except the religion and CHM II class. Im going to see the advisor next week and I had planned on taking health assessment, discipline, and chemistry the first semester. But chemistry isnt a strong point for me so maybe I should take it somewhere else and get it transferred over or just take it in the summer by itself so I wont have to focus on the nursing courses and that class.

Were you in the BSN or ADN program?

I was in ADN so Chem was not required of us. But I must say Mercy has a very STRONG science dept. All the instructors there are great. I'm not sure who teaches it as I only took micro and Patho there, but I think taking it over the summer is a good idea. Its not my strong subject either!

Yea, I want to take it over the summer. But the thing about that though is that its online during the summer. And Im not sure it would be a good idea to take chemistry without any face to face interaction, especially since I never understood the subject to begin with.

Hmm I didnt know Mercy was offering science classes online. I guess they are trying to keep up with the other schools. Well I guess it all depends what other science classes you are taking. It would be ok as long as your not taking A&P or Micro with it. That would be difficult.

No, Im actually done with all my sciences and pre reqs except CHM and Patho

Oh you should be fine! good luck and feel free to ask me any other questions!
