Lorain CCC

U.S.A. Ohio

Hey everyone! I was just wondering if anyone had any idea how long the "waiting list" at LCCC is. I have heard two years?! Now I understand that they select from a pool of applicants based on various criteria. So, for a person that has all course work complete, how long? Thanks!

Contact LCCC and ask them how long the waiting list is. Another thing you may want to consider: Tri-C is opening up their West Shore campus, near the Lorain county border, in early 2011. The Tri-C nursing program will be offered at that campus. Contact the Division of Nursing for more information.

They'll tell you three semesters once you are done with all the classes (Enrollment Services Academic Advisers).

That's what they told me and everyone that I've talked to there (students). And then I went and saw the Nursing Counselor. And um, it's at least four semesters, not counting summers. But don't worry, you can work on your BSN classes during that time (that's what the guy actually told me).

And yeah, Tri-C is coming right onto our border. Don't think for a minute that there won't be more changes - I anticipate that they're going to *have* to open up more seats because they are not going to want to lose that many students to Tri-C. As it is, I know that this summer they are going to begin offering an online version (with lab on campus) for A&P, which I think is in response to Tri-C's A&P being offered online as well.

Anyways, I've been on the list since Aug '09. I was told I'll be lucky to start by Fall '11.

The various criteria that they claim is when you signed up and if all your classes are completed...but every semester you'll hear of other students in the nursing program that still have several classes to finish.

Specializes in ER, progressive care.

I heard between 2-3 years. If you are willing (and if you can financially) I would suggest checking out the University of Akron's nursing program. I go there and I LOVE IT - and it's only an hour away from Lorain county!

I'd avoid Tri-C. PM me if you want more info.

Thanks guys! I think that I will be looking for other paths, there is no way I can wait for 3 or 4 years.

chimarie - Huron School of nursing is on the east side, more pricey but able to be done quicker is my understanding.

I'm in the program now, and they told me I would get in at least a year after completing my prereqs. I finished my last prereq last summer. I received my acceptance letter in Oct. to start spring semester. So I only took one semester off before starting the program. I think they tell students longer than it actually is so you don't get your hopes up. LCCC goes by the date you filed your application and having all your prereqs completed. They review applications twice a year, in spring and fall. If when they review applications, you don't have your prereqs done, you are automatically in the "out" pile. If you have your prereqs done, you are put into a different group of potential students to be admitted. They take the first 120 from that group based on the date you applied. I applied in August 2008. Took the 3 classes that I needed to take, finished those in Summer 2009, received my letter Oct 2009 and started the program in Jan 2010. So it really isn't that long once you have completed your prereqs. Hope that helps!

Thanks a lot! I have 2 more classes to take.... How was your gpa? I have heard that your gpa matters too. How do you like the program so far?

Hi. Well I have a BS from OSU so they had transferred a lot of credits from that to LCCC. That GPA was I think about 3.7. I got As in all three prereqs that I took at LCCC. But I was told by a couple of different advisors that they don't look at your gpa when they are doing the admission process. That as long as you have the required 2.5, that is all that matters. They said the only way that your gpa would come into play is if there are down to two students who both have the same application date competing for one spot in the program. They would then take the person with the higher gpa.

I like the program a lot. I just started my second semester. It's a lot of work, but it's manageable.

What classes do you have left to take and when did you apply to the program?

I agree with ohcomeon...you just need a 2.5. When I suggested to the counselor that they should give a higher gpa a higher place slot he was all "but we're a community college and we like to cater everyone...". I do think GPA needs to be a higher consideration, but that's because everyone that I know in the program tells me that they lose about 1/2 the class in the first semester. Now, the counselor says that's not true, but seriously, everyone I know or who I have run into on campus says this is their experience. The counselor did tell me that some will transfer to the LPN program. And, I don't think they count those people as a drop rate, as he stated that it's only 10%.

I spoke with him in February, and I'd love to think he misquoted me, but he also told me that there were 285 people when they reviewed the last class (for this fall) that were done with all their core classes. So, with that in mind, there's no way that I'll only wait one semester. It's going to be two or more semesters of a wait (plus summers) for me.

I do wonder what kind of pressure it's going to put on LCCC with Tri-C adding nursing to the campus they're building in Westlake. I hope it prompts them to open up some more spots, but if not, at least it'll allow more Lorain County residents to go to Tri-C and maybe take some pressure off of the amount of students looking to go into nursing at LCCC.

Because, at the current rate, going full time, it's going to take me from May 2009 when I started pre-reqs until Spring of 2013 to finish. That's four years and that's pathetic for an associates degree. And it's not like I made it into a longer process, it's just the way that it is.

Now, the good for LCCC is that they have an excellent reputation and a great program.
