I had the most crazy precip last night. I had a pt. with a dense epidural. She was snoring away. I was seeing some early decels and thought I should check her. She was complete and at 0 station and not feeling any pressure at all so I planned on laboring her down a litte. About a 1/2 hour later she states she feels some pressure so I recheck her and she is at +1-+2 so I grabbed my delivery table and towels for baby. That took me less then 5 min. Came in the room pulled down her blanket to set her up for pushing and found the baby completely delivered between her legs!. I was shocked! She never pushed and she didn't feel it come out. Baby was fine had apgars of 8-9. I still can't believe it. I used to tell moms with epidurals that were anxious and wanted to be checked all the time "Don't woory babies don't just fall out" but apparently they do!

That's funny.

(now backing away slowly before the story fuels the intervention debate.)

Hope you are not scarred for life now that a baby "fell out" on you!

"Don't woory babies don't just fall out" but apparently they do!

I always suspected as much! Wouldn't that be a nice perk, though, to childbirth the 'natural' way......why didn't God ask ME about it.....

:up:step back & take a look! it happened, not something we expect! i personally had an epidural & felt everything! not pain but the pressure, what was this mom? gravida? para? i did have a similar situation, gravida 8 para 7- minimal pain, 1 push & i had a baby in my hands, & was telling the mom to push the call bell because she delivered before the doctor could even get into the room........ but i though that was because she had deliverered so many.... haha

keep your great memories intact.... it doesnt happen everyday, but it happened to you today!!!

great stories to tell you kids!!:redpinkhe

Years ago when I worked L&D I had that happen. Some of us nurses were at the nurses station talking and watching the monitors. I went into my patients room to check her and when I pulled down the sheet I got a big surprise! The baby had a scalp electrode on so the monitor was still picking it up while the baby was laying in the bed! I almost messed my pants!

Similar thing happened when friends of ours were delivering child #2. The nurse went to check on something at the desk and get things set-up for delivery. Casually said over her shoulder to maybe try a "practice push" with the next contraction. Less than two minutes later the baby was on the bed. The husband ran into the hall "Uh, we have a baby in here!"

When it was time to have Child #3, the conversation pretty much went like this "Uuuum . . . . .no practice push!"

I have had this happen to me as well--but only the head made an appearance. I had variables on the monitor and a chatty anesthesist that wouldn't leave the room so I could check her. Pull back the sheet and--baby's head is out! Yes, they do just fall out and I have hade MANY 1-2 push ones as well. Laboring down is a beautiful thing.

I once had a mom that was laboring on her hands and knees(posterior presentation). Anyway the doc

and I asked her to roll over to her back so he could check her. As she rolled the baby just shot out like

a bullet! He didn't even have time to grab for the baby!:D

I was only in labor 1 hour with my fourth and final child. I was just getting in the bed and they had hooked up all equipment. I was right outside of the nursing station and could look at the nurses. I kept telling them it was time about 10 minutes after they left the room and they ignored me. Finally, a nurse said this is her fourth child she should know when it's time perhaps someone should check. When they finally decided to check my daughter was on the bed. The nurse was yelling for assistance and they were saying we will prep the OR and she told them it is too late. :banghead::banghead:
