What's The Weirdest Name You've Heard A Patient Name Her Baby? - page 54

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she... Read More

Yeah, I'm hoping you put Miranda in with the other names just because she was part of the family and not because you think it's wierd.

I love my name. It's normal enough that people can spell and pronounce it, but it's still rare enough that it's special.

I got called Randy in grade school and I HATED it. Probably because there were three boys in my grade with the same name and they were all dorks.

Now my only nicknames are Mir (rhymes with fir, not Meer like the space station) or Mirry. Didn't think about how it sounds like Murray until someone asked me if that was my real name. Oh well, it beats Randy, which your co-worker can have all to herself.
Yeah I like my name too! I am called Randa by family and close friends. High school friends used Mandy sometimes. I will admit I have wanted to try Randi but never had anyone call me that. are you hispanic? or your mother like mine and just loved the name? oh but the name I hate most in the world is Amanda b/c everyone thinks that is my name at first......

On Labor and Delivery on TLC this week a mom named her baby Isabella Lugosi. She was of course going to call her Bella.
Really cute -- name your baby after Dracula. I wonder what these parents are thinking?? I love the name Bella, that's my granddaughter's name too, but she wasn't named after Dracula, that's for sure.

There's a guy in the NFL named Plaxico -- that's his first name! Now what what his mama smokin'? Or did she name him after the plastic factory she worked in? My husband and I laugh all the time about his weird name.

I also had a teen mom who named her child Margarita......(sad).
What does being a teen have to do with naming your child Margarita? My family is Hispanic and my sister's middle name is Margarita (Margaret in english for the slow ones out there).

I am so tired of "teen mom" being thrown in replies when being a teen has nothing to do with the topic. I understand many of you weren't teen moms and you have a major problem with those of us who were/are teen moms but do you really need to project your ignorance in every post you make? If I can sense your ignorance in type written responses I can only imagine how you treat your teen parent patients.

I work at a long term care center and one of our most talked about resident's late wife's name was Hortense. Growing up, I went to school with a Leaf and a Rock (brothers). My sister in law is Sommer Star (first and middle) last name is now Brown.

I was a teenaged mother and I didn't tag my child with a moniker that would cause people to take pause or giggle behind her back. I named her Jennifer. Can't get anymore Apple pie than that. Actually I know of many teenaged moms in my hometown and I can't think of any of them that were named anything out of the ordinary. I think a lot of decisions that are made have a lot to do with cultural differences and education. Although there have been some highly educated people come through L&D that have named their children something that I wouldn't personally name a pet, but I guess it's their decision. The sad part is that the child is the one who's stuck with the name at least for 18 years anyway, if not for life.

I was a teen mom so I understand feeling protective about that vulnerable population. That isn't the topic of this thread, although it would certainly make for an interesting thread of its own. Let's return to the list of bizarre names and keep our fingers crossed that the 'jello twins don't show up for a while.
