My ED provided everyone with a meal and cake. My ED ROCKS!!! I can't imagine working in a department that is so negative they are rewarding write ups with savings bonds. No wonder they are having to use traveling nurses.

Although the dad's comments are totally horrendous, I can empathize with the frustrations of being turned down. I was turned away from a ASN program with a 4.0 with all prereqs done. I was shocked, and angry. So, some of the competition is pretty ridiculous. There needs to be more focus on educating more new nurses, not lowering standards. It is hard though when a nurse educator with MSN or PhD makes less than a nurse working on the unit... P.S.-I just got my final grades tonight and am graduating from nursing school summa cum laude!!!!!!!!!

I am an aide on an oncology floor as well. I had such a hard time dealing with death in the beginning. It takes time to adjust. I promise that it gets easier over time. :icon_hug:

At my school, there are smokers always hovering around the entrances smoking, and it is enough to aggrevate my asthma symptoms. I hope that smoking in all public places will be banned in my state. Until then, I try to avoid entrances where I see smokers, but there are times where I am forced, to breath in their carcinogens. Only smoke-free restaurants get my business.

I am still in nursing school, and this is one thing that my teacher has beat into everyones' brains. If we assist someone to a commode or put a client on a bed pan, we have to get them off ourselves before we leave. Because, if we leave and there is a patient injury there is a chance the student will get blamed, even if we tell the nurse taking over.
