What's The Weirdest Name You've Heard A Patient Name Her Baby? - page 113
Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she... Read More
Apr 27, '07I had a dad that wanted to name his son Braxton, only problem was his last name was Hicks..........Mom didn't let him do it, thank goodness! (probably only nurses and docs would have seen a problem with this, but can you imagine everytime he goes for a check-up?)
Apr 29, '07Quote from VSRNMargarita is a normal spanish name.I once heard of a mom who named her child Nosmoking.....said it was the last thing she saw before her c/s. I also had a teen mom who named her child Margarita......(sad). I learned from many years working with new parents how to keep a straight face.
Apr 29, '07Yep, I've had several Margaritas......I kinda like that one
Ha, I better be careful how I say that, I went back and read it, it looks funny, like I have been drinkin' all night
Apr 29, '07Quote from crazylilkellyYes, I've known a couple girls/women with that name. Most likely, the drink was inspired by a woman with that name many years ago.Margarita is a normal spanish name.

Daughter's friend named her son "Talon". As in eagle claws??
Another dd friend's kid named "Rylan", pronounced Rye-lynn.
Son in law's brother named his first son Anakin. He is a big Star Wars freak, Anakin was Darth Vader's real first name before he turned to the Dark Side. WHY his wife agreed to this is beyond me.Last edit by KaroSnowQueen on Apr 30, '07 : Reason: spelling
May 1, '07Well I am named after star wars too. Leia....hmmm what were my parents thinking!!! LOL!!! I am so used to it now and it does not bother me!! I do not work L&D but in my local paper I saw an announcement for a baby boy...named Bush...on election day...so I figure it was after the president...and they had a bad last name to go with it!!!!
May 2, '07My friend and her dh named their son Luke after Skywalker.
She comes from a Catholic Cuban/Irish family. One her aunts reponded, "Oh, like the Gospel writer?" She drew a blank for a minutes and said something along the lines of, "Oh yeah! That too."
I am afraid they will have a girl next time and name her Leia. They are both nice, normal names but, uhm, not together!
May 2, '07Here in NH we used to have a senator named RIchard "Dick" Sweatt!!! And don't forget the race car driver- Dick Trickle!!!!
May 2, '07And my sister in law is dating Elwood, whose younger brother is........Jake!!! Born in the early 80's and they actually do a blues brothers skit that is pretty funny- no resemblance though!!
May 2, '07My husband, while working his L&D rotation, assisted in the delivery of a baby girl that was named Labya (pronounced la-by-ah with the emphasis on by). The nurses questioned the mother as to the origins of the name and the reply was that it was a family name. I can only imagine the pronunciation blunders that occured when that child entered school.
I went to school with a brother and a sister whose last name was Butte (pronounced with a long "u" sound). The brother's name was Harold, but the kids at school shortened it to Harry and pronounced the last name as butt. His sister was equally unfortunate in the fact that as a small child she was chubby and her father called her Juicy and the name stuck.
I babysat a child named Walter Salter. I never understood what that couple had against that child...
My daughter has a child in her class named Chiquita Dole. The kids call her Tutti Frutti.
At a recent function with my husband a man walked up to our table and introduced himself as Major Beavers. We later found out his first name was Dixon but he went by Don. I can understand why. Major Beavers was bad enough but Dixon Beavers?! His parents either had a warped sense of humor, did drugs or were just to stupid to think about what they were doing.
May 3, '07I know a guy named Yrral (I-rahl). His dad's name is Larry, his brother is Larry, Jr, so his name is Larry backwards. Seriously!
My aunt's daughter-in-law named her 2 girls Stormie and Rainie! We told her to name the 3rd one Wendy and the'd have an entire weather forecast!
