I am just a pre-nursing student, but a midwife hopeful. I absolutely loved this movie. I was so empowered and excited about my future after I viewed it. I have it saved on my computer so that I can watch it when school gets me down and I want to give up.

Specializes in student; help!.

I had my second homebirth last Wednesday, and it's probably no surprise that I loved this movie (but for the gloveless midwife. Uh, fail!).

I like to think that this could turn up in sex ed classes one day, but that's probably going too far. At the very least, it should be part of all mama/baby nursing classes to show that yes, women can and do labor without meds and it's not a bad thing. It's not like CA pain, it's something we go into voluntarily and with the understanding that it has a purpose. For me, it was a personal rite of passage, as I suppose it is for some. For my children, it was a first gift, the passage from one world to another without being snowed by meds (though about the second the afterpains kicked in I was ALL OVER my Lortab :D). OMG I sound like such a hippie. But there it is.

Anyway, yeah, it's a great film and I wish it got more play, but I think word of mouth is getting it out there pretty well.

Specializes in Community, OB, Nursery.

I just watched it last night and really liked it. Two thumbs up. I especially liked the commentary that Dr. Michel Odent gave throughout. I wish we could get back to that.

For me I was really always interested in OB nursing and I LOVED my L&D clinical but for some reason there's something inside of me that says I can't do it... I am not an aspiring CNM.. but.. I don't think I could do it because there are so many interventions that are uneccesary...also women being pressured into doing things or being discouraged if they question a specific treatment... oh.. I don't know.

I just watched it last night. Very good. Makes me wish there were more CNMs. I would love to work in a birthing center.....maybe one day.
