I received a job offer for a staff nurse position at the top hospital in my city, in the Women's Health unit! I have always wanted to work OB, I am thrilled to join the specialty!!!

I graduate in two weeks, so I still have to take the test. They want me to come in as a tech for two months while I am waiting to take the NCLEX. I am so so so thrilled!!

No, this is my first job in OB. I've been working at another hospital for the last 20 months. How did I land it? I've been building my resume since the first day of nursing school, got involved in everything I could, became an officer in student government, volunteered, maintained my GPA, joined professional organizations, and made sure I could compete with other graduates lol! It wasn't easy!!! I'm glad I looked at it that way though, I know it's competitive out there.

I started out in LDRP. When in school I was sure to get top grades; got NRP, ACLS, and S.T.A.B.L.E; became a certified labor doula; and took two extra clinical semesters doing preceptorships in L&D through a separate nursing program (allowing myself to get well known; and now I work at the hospital I was training at). You really do have to go the extra mile, especially now that job market is so competitive...there has been articles about "the creme of the crop" and how hospitals are able to pick the best of the best. Its hard to get a job as a nurse right now if all you do is go through nursing school and do nothing extra

To the OP :yeah:. Keep your nose to the grind stone, being an actual nurse is way harder than school; but at least now it is what you are passionate about!
