I think they were all meeting in 2004 but we could always organise a meet up in 2005 or 2006 - is anyone else interested?

Well I'm new here so just catching up on the last years' post, but I'm interested in meeting. I'm making my second trip over to the UK from the US in April 2006 for a two week stay. Starting in Glasgow and working my way down to Wales, so I can potentially meet anywhere in between.

One of my biggest goals aside from visiting my friends is to visit several hospitals and speak with the local nurses. This seems like the perfect opportunity to mix business with pleasure and have some fun. So if anyone's interested, let's re-light this candle!

Sorry Bill_ER I have been seriously ill in hospital over the last month - so your trip is in April 2006. When are you looking at being close to either Scotland or London exactly? I know RCN Congress and the biggest gathering of nurses in the UK will be in Bournemouth in April - see http://www.rcn.org.uk for more details. Adding a meeting to the end of that event or the start or even during it might be a good idea - even if you are not intending to attend the conference...

have you been to congress???????????? Harrogate is crawling with nurses :rotfl: and you cant get a room for love nor money!!

Karen

We're in Bournemouth this year, back to Harrogate next year :chuckle

It would be especially relevant as this years theme is "Nursing the World" http://www.rcn.org.uk/congress

I am a travel nurse wanting to get a short-term job in the UK (locum tenens). My specialties are hemodialysis and psychiatry. By the time I got registered, things had changed in the UK and it seems your nursing shortage is over or your money ran out. At any case,it appears there won't be any jobs. Same thing happens in the US every 15 yr or so. They decide they need to cut down on nurse pay or "reorganize" and cut nurse jobs, but people continue to get sick! Average age of nurses here is 46-how is it in UK? Can anyone put me in touch with a private hospital which might need help? I do have a PIN. If nothing else,I want to see how the heath system works over there, because ours is a mess, and we could use some ideas. Thanks, rntraveler

Not so much nursing shortage is over just that many trusts are having financial difficulties and cutting back. The worst bit is approx 3-4 years ago there was a big drive to get people to take nursing up as a career and now they are qualifying there isn't any jobs for them.

Not sure if private hospitals will be able to help but a suggestion is looking at the main private hospital providers ie BUPA, Capio, Nuffield. Decide where you want to live and discuss with any of the hospitals in that area.
