What's your pick for the perfect nurses watch?

Nurses Uniform/Gear

Published

Hi all!

I'm looking for the perfect nurses watch and could use some help. Perfect for me, means analog, with military time, night light, over sized plate, I can find that easy enough, but I'm struggling to find a watch that I can wear all the time, meaning I don't particularly like the "white band" and am looking for a dressier band.

So... any ideas, favorites? Big thanks!

I think the best watch is the Casio G Shock vibration alarm G-7510 found at:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0019M5FTY

You can find them cheaper maybe on ebay but the reasons why they are such great watches are for the following reasons...

There are three alarms one of which has a snooze function.

Choose between vibrating or audible alarm.

There is both standard and military time.

It has the day-time-date.

It it digital.

It has world time.

It has a timer/stopwatch.

And you can also input phone-numbers if you need to.

Great watch that is absolutely durable, versatile, comfortable and functional.

I have an Omega Seamaster. Waterproof to 300 ft. This thing can get thrown all over the place and I have never had a problem with it. The only problem I have is that I can't see the date on it very well. The magnification over the date area is not very strong.

For my CNA class clinicals I wanted an easy read (40 yo eyes LOL) water-resistant (non-leather) so you can wash it really well and it had to have military time. I found this one on Nurse mates. This place seemed to have the best price ($34) with free shipping.

I am looking for a watch that meets these criteria...if you know of this "Dream Watch" please let me know!

-Analog with second hand

-Rubber or Jelly strap

-Lights up

-24 hour time

-Date preferred, but not necessary

I have looked and looked for such a watch and usually find one with a few of the characteristics I want, but not all. Thank you!

READ THIS!!! Best watch ever I promise!!

It's the Nike Triax Swift ADX

I can't say enough about this watch! It has everything!

It makes me put !! after all my sentences when I talk about it : )

It is both digital and analog (which I love in the ER for quick reads of time in codes) has a sweeping second hand for pulses, military time, an indiglo light, date, including day of the week, and is water resistant. They say it's meant for runners, but I think there is a nurse somewhere behind the design.

It runs anywhere from $60-$120 but I would happily pay 3x that for this amazing watch. You will never want a regular watch again! Google it for the best price.

Did I mention it has an awesome "S" shape that works great to fit the wrist so you don't even have to turn it to read the dial?

Woah I love this watch way more than I should love a watch...

I found a watch that is close to my "dream watch"...it is the Timex Expedition. The only thing it is lacking is the rubber/silicone watch band. As soon as the leather one wears out, I'll replace it and then it will be perfect!!!

Thank you to everyone who added their .02 cents on this topic. The person who said that I'm likely to try a half dozen watches before finding the one that is "perfect" for me is probably dead-on accurate!

I'm leaning toward both the Casio Baby G shock with the digital date/time. And indiglo-like function for low-light conditions. I do like the idea of a vibrating alarm - let's see if I use it during RN school clinicals?! I've tried it on my wrist at the store. Think I like it pretty well. My only challenge is that I would prefer the display to be larger thus easier to read. Presbyopia is no fun! LOL!

I'm leaning towards a lapel watch as a back-up. Not sure how expensive these are. Hate to order from Europe. The shipping might be as expensive as the watch.

INTERESTING & IMPORTANT: I just read this from a poster,

" FYI y'all, the reason you will need a visual second hand is because it is used to time pulse & respirations... generally, you will count the number that occur in 30 seconds (X 2) or a full 60 seconds. It is easy to notice when your 30 seconds are up (halfway around dial) and/or 'count' while watching the second hand... not so easy if you are trying to 'do the math' with a digital readout of seconds. After you have had to start over a few times because you lose count - you will understand. "

So, now I'm leaning toward the lapel type watch. Or maybe a stopwatch I can pull out of my pocket.

I have a nursemates watch with black band, it has military time and the second hand has a rotating heart, its cute and I think it looks fine worn with other clothes. www.nursemates.com. Comes in white, black and pink. I think it cost around $35.

My belief is that all healthcare personnel should not wear a wrist watch because of the bacteria etc it can gather and pass along. Get a Fob watch (hangs from pin on chest). I do not know why American nurses etc continue to wear long sleeves, wrist watches jewelry on hand / wrist when it is obvious it hinders proper hand hygiene. E Stroud

Not what the OP is looking for but Walmart has cheap rubbery banded watches that are advertised as "safe for hand washing". They come in a variety of colors and have a big face with all 12 numbers. The batteries seem to last forever and they are under $10!
