Ode to Urbane Scrubs

Nurses Uniform/Gear

My first scrubs were purchased at a discount chain at $14 a set. I had to make returns because the XS tops were too small and the S sets were too big, and I'm stuck with the ones nonrefundable due to wearing. I later went to another scrub store and discovered Urbane Scrubs, and I am never going back to regular scrubs. They cost about $43 per set, but the extra coin is worth it. Other companies are copying the curve-hugging fit, which is great because soon it recognizes male and female bodies as having different needs.

I used to think that brand name and tailored scrubs were frivolous and vain encouragment for high school-esque fashion shows. This is before I discovered scrubs specially designed for the female figure. Most scrubs were not made to be unisex. Men have straight up-and-down figures that are suited fine for boxy scrubs, but women have hips and breasts. The tops can be too tight around the hips but feel too baggy around the top, both of which makes lifting uncomfortable. The bottoms are straight-legged and give no extra room in the hips or butt, which can be a risk for ripping and wedgies. Buying larger sizes is not a panacea because sleeves and pant legs may drag in messes or catch on things, too much extra fabric can chafe, and they will undoubtedly be too loose in every other area except the hips or butt. Urbanes Scrubs tops are flared at the bottoms, which allows women to have nice childbearing hips. Fabric quality is another issue. My cheapo scrubs are scratchy and stiff even after a load full of Downy, but my Urbane Scrubs are softer but stiff enough to stay wrinkle-free. I love Urbane!

Oh my Lord, I don't think I ever remember a time when I wore an XS. Actually I'm the other way in an XL.

I just bought my first set of patterns for the sewing machine so I can make my own and not be limited to fabric patterns.

i loooove urbane. The only problem i find with them is that their bottom sizes and their top sizes are not really the same. I wear a medium top with x-small bottoms. Doesnt make sense.

However, they are the most comfortable, nicest looking scrubs out there. Definitely worth the money. I also make my own tops, and i recently used one of my urbane tops to cut out fabric, so i can give them a little shape (because the patterns that you buy are the straight box type)...

Also, if you are looking for comfort and style...Dickies (and yeah, i was never really fond of their stuff...especially their track suit looks) now makes a "trouser" pant. Its VERY comfortable, and looks really neat.

I think there is nothing wrong about spending a little money on nice scrubs, especially if you spend most of your day/week wearing it.

I LOVE urbane scrubs! They are so flattering.

They are too short in the torso for me. I wear and XS as well. And the small is longer in torso but swallows me whole...two wide.

The closest store to me is 50 miles away!

Um, what I will save in scrub money I will spend in gas! :)

My scrubs look overly baggy on me and I look un put together blahh. I will try urbane, but I wear alllll white and may have to re stock more often due to how dirty/dingy they look over time, especially at the end of the sleeves and bottoms of my pants. I also wish I could wear the colored scrubs, they have beautiful selections.

Those unisex ones are not really comfy. I am 5'10 and in order to avoid seriousl floods or capri action have to wear large scrubs bottoms. This means that they still hover around my ankle but, I have a chafing pants stitched crotch at mid thigh and its like wearing panythose stuck at your thigh all day.

Oh and I absolutely do not appreciate that the second the tie becomes loose the fall straight to the floor (or toilet) faster than you can imagine.

:( hmph.

p.s. the ob/maternity floor where I am doing clinicals has these. It isn't fun to have a drawstring tied around your hips all day as the only thing you feel on your lower half, aside from the chafing crotch mid thigh!

Oops, knocks them out of my intereste, I am tall, (small but tall and most pants can't work that right).

edit: ah, I just looked at the website and can tell by how poorly they sit on the models that they wouldn't work, just venting but, who wants to reach UP to their ribs to use their front lower pockets? It is one of my own pet peeves as is having a colar that is supposed to sit lower on you poking you up in your neck...okay, tall girl rant over. :) (just that they do not look comfortable to me, like my head wouldn't fit through the little top, then again, I am long with wide shoulders yet small-ish) I am happy for you to find joy in clothes that fit!! That is to be celebrated even if I cannot join you!
