Resume and cover letter Help!!

Hello everyone,

I have being a nurse for 5+ years in a LTC facility. I would now like to transition to hospital nursing but I don't think my resume is selling me as the right canditate! Also i do not know how to write a cover letter. Please help, I'm desperate. Here's a copy of my resume:

Resumes That Knock Em Dead and Cover Letters That Knock Em Dead, both written by Martin Yate, are excellent resources for this type of thing. In addition, there are lots of online resources available. Cover letters are extremely important, because if you send a poor cover letter, the potential employer won't bother to look at your resume, let alone call you for an interview. Best of luck.

First thoughts on reading this:

There is nothing that stands out. It reads a list of generic nursing tasks.

Suggestions:

1)Remove the list of tasks under your experience and change them to accomplishments. If you think you can't/dont'/won't have any accomplishments after 5+ years, you aren't thinking hard enough. Make sure each starts with an action verb and consists of Situation - Action - Result.

"Multi-tasked to provide care for 10-12 complex patients per shift with highly individualized plans."

2)Were you ever in charge? Highlight this. You talk about implementing strategies for fall prevention/reduction of hospitalization, how did you do this and how much did it change the falls/hospitalization?

3) Get rid of "references available upon request." It's unnecessary as it is expected that you will provide them when asked.

To a great extent, if a job activity cannot be portrayed as an accomplishment, it may not be worthy of mention in your resume, cover letter, or in an interview.

Look over the skills, knowledge and abilities the hospital unit is looking for and tailor your resume to with their words from your background to show you're the perfect fit.
