Normally people take the NCLEX in the state they live in or in the state that they plan to work in. It gets a little complicated if you live in one of those states that requires licensure and hours of work experience from another state. You need to become aware of what the standing of Excelsior is with your home state or the state that you contemplate taking the NCLEX in or the state where you are planning to work. Another factor to consider is whether or not any of these states are compact states. Find all this info out by contacting the various boards of any states that you are interested in.

Usually FOR your home state. I however, plan on taking it FOR Minnesota (in home home state), b/c their process is a lot faster, then I'll endorse in, and may do some travel while I wait for my state to process my app.

hi lernernj. i am from new jersey too and i have been researching excelsior college for a couple of months now because i am really considering it when i finish my lpn program in january. anyhoo, yes you will be able to take nclex in nj without any restrictions.

(9/2005)

I live and planned to work in WA but due to restrictions took the NCLEX for Hawaii and then endorsed to Alaska (all without issues) and then eventually endorsed to WA. I was licensed in 2 states prior to WA finally accepting my app. Gotta love the politics!

    Hello all,

Excuse me for my ignorance. What if someone graduated from Excelsior in atlanta but decided to take boards in NY. After getting your license is it possible to apply for reciprocity to say... CA or GA? or am I missing a bigger picture?

Yup. Although CA prob not due to the clinical componant and the time of enrolment. GA however, you can apply for reciprocity.
