what do you think about college network online lpn to rn

I'm LPN working to get my RN. what do you think about college network LPN to RN ladder... Is this a good program? Pls advise

good questions, i would like to know more about people input on the college network online school as well. i know a lady who is going from LPN to BSN and she say she takes one class per month and that she pays a monthly fee of 148-160 per month.

The College Network is a publishing company, not a school. They sell study materials that they purport will guarantee you success in whichever program your interested in ie: Excelsior College of Indiana State University. You can get all materials you need directly from either school. Excelsior is a distance learning, self study program where you study on your own and take exams to gain credit towards your degree. Indiana State University is an online degree program. http://www.indstate.edu/distance/ for Indiana State University and www.excelsior.edu for Excelsior.

College Network has no affiliation to ANY school.

Stay away...Stay away...Stay away....I am doing the same program but going right thru Excelsior and I have friend who signed with College network. She is paying thousands of dollars just for their study books, and in the end will still have to enroll with Excelsior as well. You do not need College network! She will end up paying about 20,000 where I will end up paying only about 7 or 8 thousand. Save your Money go right thru Excelsior.

Most people have better things to do with the more than $5000 that the publishing company wants you to contract for to buy their overpriced study guides. You can find their study guides on ebay for $15 to $30 apiece.

You did not mention why you are considering The college Network. Do you need nursinng prerequisites, general ed classes, or just need to study for a specific class or challenge exams. What you need to know is you pay TCN up front for the program. Their representative is actually a salesperson. TCN discusses financial aid--which actually means you take out a loan to be paid back after your graduate. The interest starts from the day you get the check, unless it is deferred for a specific time.

TCN is expensive and they are not accredited. This means that only a few colleges/universities will take your credits from TCN. I believe Excelsior is accredited and their classes can be accepted by other universities. BTW core nursing courses do not transfer, normally. You must take them with the nursing program you attend.

I am not enamored with TCN. Yet, some people swear by it and it may have been he only way they were able to get into an RN program.

How can TCN be accredited? It is not a school. It's a publishing company....and Excelsior is accredited but has no affiliation with TCN. Just wanted to clear that up for the original poster, so they're not even more confused. ;)

I really wish TCN would be honest with people and say exactly what they are, a publishing company. You don't need them for any program the claim to get you into. Excelsior College has their own study guides they give you for free, and if you need specific books to help you study they tell you exactly what you need. Same with Indiana State University. TCN cannot and will not help you pass or get into a program. They just want you beholden to them for over $4000 worth of useless study guides. Believe me I know. I have several boxes filled with study guides that I never used and could not return to them because I was bamboozeled into believing their hype when the salesman came to the house. I ended going to a LPN-RN program brick and mortar school.

What burns me is you see their ads everywhere, even on AN. It's no wonder people get confused.

Why are you so intent on people going to the CPNE horror show webpage?

There are successful RN's who have graduated from EC who post regularly on this board who passed the CPNE. There are also people who haven't passed that will tell you it is a fair exam and you have to put in the time and practice to pass, regardless of how long you've been a nurse.

I think it is a great program and it is my only option to becoming an RN. I WILL graduate and become an RN this year because of Excelsior College. Let them do their own homework on the program and what they are getting into. It is a great fit for some people.

Whatever it is, it is a chance for those who may not have other options. You have to give EC credit for that. No good words for TCN though, a ripoff if there ever was one.

I second everything bad said about TCN. They are friendly and make themselves available to you to answer any questions.......for ......six thousand dollars. If you're the type of person who pays someone a thousand dollars to wash your car then go ahead and go with TCN. I got some oceanfront property in Arizona to sell too! Highest bidder gets it!
