University of Wyoming, advice

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

I have been researching as many schools that I can that are completely on-line. I may be moving within the next year and the destination is uncertain. So this seems to be the best route. I have narrowed it down to two schools. I know i have seen the University of Wyoming mentioned on this board because that is where I got the idea. Anyone attending or who has attended on here now? I was wondering if you liked the program? What you don't like? Would you recommend the school to others? What would you say to a perspective student. Well, I would appreciate any insight!!! I have taken on-line classes at a local community college but a bit nervous about this. Thanks in advance for any help!!!!!

Someone, anyone??

Sorry you are not getting repsonses, I personally do not have any experience with the U of WY. Have you looked at Deaconess College of Nursing in St. Louis MO? or Excelsior College?

Both schools offer degrees in nursing however Excelsior only takes individuals with specific professional backgrounds while DCN will accept students with no former healthcare background. I will tell you if you have no former healthcare profession and want to attend DCN you will need to do clinical rotations (which obviously are not online) but they are done in a hospital in your geographic area.

The two sites are

http://www.excelsior.edu

http://www.deaconess.edu

I would suggest you contact them directly as the websites are not all inclusive to the rules and requirements for admission.

Good luck and I hope you hear from someone with U of WY experience soon.

You are quite welcome. Anytime. I'll share anything I know, which if you ask my youngest, isn't a whole lot!!

Take care and good luck

Hey there! My DH and i are currently getting ready to do UW's online completion for BSN. I think it sounds like a GREAT program, so i'm excited. Go to the WY forum and there's a thread about it somewhere. I've also done many online classes and can't say enough about them. I have 2 kids 3 and under and am expecting my 3rd, so online is the best route for me and my family. I'll keep you posted on any info i get, i'm supposed to speak with them on Monday about some general info if you'd like!

I have been briefly in touch with them and all my transcripts were sent off a few weeks ago. I have no idea where I stand, not sure if I still need classes before I can begin. I am eager to hear back from them!!! It seemed like one of the best programs I found. Please, share any information you find out, of course, if you don't mind. I look forward to hearing about what you and your husband's take on the program is once you get started. GOOD LUCK!!!! I would appreciate any information. i will go check out that thread in the WY forum, I never thought of that-THANKS SO MUCH!!!

BTW-CONGRATS on your upcoming new arrival!:)

Thanks for the congrats! Needles to say we are SURPRISED. lol

I'll keep you posted on what i find out. From what i've heard, you can enroll in up to 3 classes before "officially" being in the program, so that may help me with the pre-reqs i need too.

Snowy, I posted to you in the WY forum but here it is. . .

I am about to cry. I too got the packet and that awesome e-mail not too long ago. I too was excited and ready to get moving. However, today they are telling me that they don't accept my nursing school. My nursing school is NLNAC accrediated and actually won praise. Well, they said is is not REGIONALLY (whatever that means) accrediated. However, somehow my small community college they accept. I have worked so hard looking at school for so long. I finally found one that I really want to go to and feel comfortable about. I guess it is back to the drawing board. Be careful and check this information. Between transcript being sent and the evaluation fee, I have lost a little over $40 to be told this. I am so upset but wanted to warn you so this doesn't happen to you. Good Luck. Back to research I guess.

OMG that sucks! I have no idea of what kind of accredidation my school is. I'm thinking (and its been a while) that mine is NOT NLN accreddited because they stopped doing that a few years ago. But i'm not sure of that to be honest. Oh jeez, now i'm nervous. I'm so sorry this happened to you. Can you appeal it somehow? Or do they have any alternate routes you can take to still attend? I hope everything works out for you! I'll keep you posted too!

Snowy--I just don't understand what they are talking about??? Now Maureen Lutterman calls me and tells me there is no problem as long as I have a valid RN license. So as long as you have a current valid licenese you should be fine. Why all the letters and e-mail from admissions???? I don't know but just glad I can still go. I will probably start taking some of the introductory courses in the summer. I need to finish up statistics and then all prereq's are done!! She was very nice and made me feel at ease. I have been crazy with life and it pushed me over the edge, lol. I had a family memeber die yesterday, another family memeber had car accident 2 days ago, i found out today I have gallstones and need a cholecystectomy next week. My nerves are shot!!!!!!!! Well, It couldn't hurt to check. I would talk to Maureen, she is great. When are you starting? Good Luck and keep in touch!!!!!!!!!! It sounds like such a great school, I am so excited! I hope I didn't scare you too much, it sure scred me:eek:

oh JEEZ. I talked to marie too, and she seemed very helpful. I almost NEVER talk to admissions when it comes to nursing issues cuz they always screw it up! PLEASE let me know how it all goes. Hey where are you doing stats at? That's one i need to do, and i don't know if i should do a traditional stats or find one online.

I'm so sorry about your family member passing on! I'll keep you in my prayers. Hey don't sweat the lap chole too much. I had one in '98, i had 16 stones the size of peas and 2 acorn size and had to do it emergently. But after a week you'll be back on your feet! Take it easy, it sounds like its ALL working out for you!!!
