University of Oklahoma-Accelerated BSN Program - page 43

Hi All, I'm new to this site and to the field of nursing. Has anyone gone to this school and if so, what did you think? I live in San Diego, CA, and there is an online program that this... Read More

    Update:

I just received my letter in the mail yesterday, I'm an alternate. I called and left a message, as well as e-mailed to find out more information. She is the contact for the Glendale and San Diego admissions, if you need her contact info, let me know. Crossing my fingers that I'm able to get in!

And thank you all again for your information and help!

Edit: I just got an e-mail, looks like they did not accept very many people at all for the Summer 2009 class.

    Suzanne:

For the San Diego summer 2009 class, we admitted 24 students. Therefore, it was very competitive for admission. I am not permitted to say where you fall on the alternate list, however, I can tell you that we are unlikely to pull very many names from that list. You are a strong applicant with a good gpa and I would strongly encourage you to reapply for the fall 2009 term. We plan to admit 56 at that time and I think you would be in good standing.

    .....
Now that is just plain depressing, I was told earlier that they were going to admit 75-80 for the Summer 2009 class .

Thanks , I thought there were also scholarships and nursing loans available. They made it seem like it would be no problem, I do not have much left for stafford loans and I will not quallify for the Medcap. I have a bachelors and a masters and used up most of my undergraduate eligibility for stafford (only have $16,000 left. I also think you can only get about 10,500 per year as an undergraduate.is that right? I have not been accepted yet, but I think I have a good chance. There were only 3 people at the oreientation and I was the only one applying for summer 2009.
My friend has a masters as well and she was able to get loans. she got private loans as well as some stafford, etc.

I am an alternate for the San Diego program as well. I can't believe they only admitted 24! I wonder if they are having trouble finding enough instructors or something. I wish they wouldn't have encouraged those of us who did not have all of their prerequisites done to apply for Summer. Does anyone know if you have to resubmit transcripts if you apply for a second time?

KT17, that makes sense. I never thought about them possibly having problems finding enough instructors, but maybe that is the case. Either way, its still my number one choice, and I will definitely be re-applying for the Fall. I'm not sure if you need to resubmit transcripts, I hope not, but I'll probably call later this week to find out.

Anyway, Good Luck, I hope you still get in this summer. I hope I do too, but seems like its not a very likely possibility.

I doubt its due to lack of instructors, there are plenty of them. Perhaps it has to do with clinical placements. I don't know why they cut down on applicants, I haven't heard anything. I was shocked they only admitted 24 as well. Good luck alternates. I know someone who was an alternate and was admitted a week before we started because someone backed out. Don't give up!

Did everyone get their letters yet? I'm an alternate for Glendale. Does anyone know how many were accepted to Glendale?

I'm an alternate for Glendale, too. I spoke with Suzanne today and they only admitted 16 students to Glendale for Summer 09!! Don't quote me on this exact number, but I'm pretty sure she said there are 22 alternates for Glendale. I don't know if she was talking about San Diego or Glendale, but she also said they reduced the numbers because they were relocating and something about the program growing too fast. Maybe a shortage of instructors/staff? Maybe not enough clinical sites? I'm not quite sure. Alternates should know a little more in about ten days (admitted students are suppose to accept or decline the offer in that time period). I'm keeping my fingers crossed for all of us!!

that's weird.. i thought they were accepting 48 for the summer. did you finish all your pre-reqs already?

I just got the bad news. I am an alternate for Glendale. Has anyone been accepted the following semester after not being accepted the first time? I still have 2 clep exams to take and maybe this is why I did not make the cut. They encouraged me to apply though they knew I still had two cled exams left.

Any idea what the cutoff GPA was for SD program?
  11. by LaLaws
I guess they decided to take fewer students than originally planned for at both the SD branch and the Glendale branch. I've finished all of my pre-req classes but my degree isn't posted yet. I'm in the middle of my last semester at Texas A&M Univ (I graduate on May 15th). Fortunately, other than Human Growth and Development (which I CLEP tested out of), all of the pre-reqs are required courses for my first degree (BS in Nutritional Sciences). This waiting game is torture!

For those of you that don't get in until Fall, it might be a blessing in disguise because at least you'll have only 1 summer semester. If you start in the summer, you'll have have 2 summers & it's already pretty intense during the regular semester!

Good luck to you too! I'm not counting on this summer...I figure if I do get a spot it will just be a pleasant surprise . I did get an email today that is practically identical to the one you quoted above...I hope she really means what she said about being good candidates for the fall.
