University of Oklahoma-Accelerated BSN Program

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hi All,

I'm new to this site and to the field of nursing. Has anyone gone to this school and if so, what did you think?

I live in San Diego, CA, and there is an online program that this school offers. I'm 3 prerequisites away from applying to the school, with a start date of August 08. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nicole

Specializes in Couplet Care/Newborn Nursery.

They said I could apply with courses in progress. I had thought I had to wait to apply until they were finished, but I got a call asking if I wanted to switch my application to Summer 2009 instead of Fall 2009. The lady I spoke with was aware of my classes in progress and wanted to know when they ended.

She didn't tell me how many people applied and I didn't ask either. I probably should have.

What location are you looking to apply to?

Specializes in NICU.

I just dropped off my transcripts today and they told me I could apply for Summer as well. I still have 3 prereqs in progress and two of them are sciences. I haven't decided yet what to do but if anyone else has any thoughts I'd love to hear them. I was planning on working through the summer to save up a little more $$$ but maybe it would be better to be done sooner? I did ask if I would have to reapply for Fall if I didn't get in and she said I would.

I was thinking the same thing...about working during the summer to make extra $$ and then hopefully starting in fall. But I think I would rather just start in the summer and get going. I think classes start in early June for the summer start.

Where did you drop off your transcripts? I am going to mail mine after I order them.

Are you applying for Glendale or San Diego?

Glad to find someone else applying for summer!

I'm applying for San Diego and dropped off my transcripts at their office at Sharp Cabrillo. I think I'm leaning towards applying for summer...I'll be glad if they take me for either one! Does anyone know the average GPA for the San Diego program?

I'm applying for Fall 09 but Im coming from LA, is anyone planning on getting an apartment around the hospital or could help me find an apartment and some roommates? I know there's a closer one to LA, I just want to move away for a while to focus on my studies. Good luck everyone

I was asked to apply for summer with 3 classes in progress. However, I am not ....my baby is still too young so I am going to apply for Fall. I was told that summers are slower ....not too many applicants..thats not to say they dont have enough people applying but maybe they want to have extra etc

anyway good luck everyone

Hi Merced0301,

In regards to your housing search, I would like to recommend that you find something in central San Diego. Your hospital clinicals will range in location from Kearny Mesa, Chula Vista, Coronado and La Mesa. The school at Sharp Cabrillo will also be moving in April, rumors say to the Kearny Mesa area. Each clinical will be a different location each semester and you don't really have a choice as to your location. Besides, each hospital will offer its own unique experience.

I have used backpage.com in the past to search for housing and roommates. Good luck in your housing search and good luck for the fall.

marimoe - thank you soo much, i will look into apartments near or around Kearny Mesa. I heard nothing ranges below $500 which is expected. are you already in the program, any type of insight would be greatly appreciated.

also I was told I could have 2 courses in progress but in order to apply for summer BUT i would have to finish my final before June 8 and my finals are on that week and I wont have my grades in until 2-3 weeks after that so I decided to apply for Fall although they've been emailing me telling me that they all receive the greatest number of applications during the fall, I'm still hopeful about the whole thing.

I got the same info as well.....saying they have the highest number of applicants for the Fall. I wonder if this is accurate info????? I am sure they have more applicants than seats available for summer as well.

I called the San Diego office today to ask about how many people have applied. They told me they wouldn't know the number until the deadline has passed but it is less than 100. I have been trying to decide if i want to apply for Fall instead and they just said it's up to me and that either way it is a competitive applicant pool. I FREAKED when I read the email about the fall being the most applications and that i should appyl today for summer. I asked the counselor and she said they have had applications ranging from 90-160 per term in the past, she said that they had 160 the last fall application. so that means only half got in....it's a tough decision, and i still haven't made up my mind....summer is looking more appealing...

Hi Merced 0301,

Yes, I'm in my first semester right now. Good luck again on that housing search. As far as my thoughts on the program...it's quite hectic the first three weeks. Then your schedule is more regular and you don't have to be on campus as much. I too would also have debated between applying in the summer or fall. One person posted that starting in the summer will give you the advantage of having the longer semesters(fall and spring) to do the 2nd and 3rd semesters which are the hardest. Then again I remember thinking how I was glad to not start off in the summer because it was quite of an adjustment in the beginning like I said. I will have second semester in the summer and I am personally dreading that (especially Pharmacology), but I think that it all just boils down to time management and being organized from the start. Also I feel it helps if you don't work. I quit my job before the semester started and I am glad I did. Other people that I know work are either starting to quit or really cut back. My clinical instructor has advised us to not work anymore because the program is going to get harder. :(

I will try to check in here when I can and offer my experiences. Good luck to you and everyone applying for Summer and Fall.

okay i have made my decision and i am going to apply for summer 2009 with courses in progress!!! i am freaking out since the deadline is on sunday. i can't make the application workshop today, but i think i will be okay using the application process they emailed me. i feel like my chances are going to be better by applying in the summer. it sounds like there are tons who will apply this fall.
