Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews

Nursing Students School Programs Nursing Q/A

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

I think that most professors (stretching the meaning of this word) do not care when you DQ responses are posted but there are some out there that do. My leadership instructor (again stretching the meaning of this word) took points off for the first week participation because I did not follow the rules. The rules state that you must post 2 times a day for at least 3 days. Well I posted every day but I only posted twice on 2 of those days. So I posted more than the minimum and was present everyday of the week but lost points. The worst part is that she did not grade till the last minute at the end of week 2 so I lost the same points for the second week as well. This was ridiculous.

I now hold true to the post my 2 initial posts on Monday, 2 responses on Tuesday, 2 responses on Wednesday, and 2 responses on Thursday. Then I do not visit the forum at all. They want to play that game I will play. I thought it was important to be present for discussions throughout the week. Now I am only there for minutes 4 times a week. I am so done with this.

But those are the rules..if ur going to post once...it doesnt count unless u post twice!! But I dont htink many of them follow that! I just base that one seeing how some people post! I tried to post both my DQs monday.....then tues/wed/thurs did my responses.....but I had plenty of time! I will add that to my email to the school, lol But u are right, most are not really professors. They are very fortunate that the curriculum is made for them..they just need to grade and be active somewhat in the forums!!

Here is a prime example of a GCU RN to BSN group project! One person working, others just being a huge pain, and other doing nothing at all

Spirituality did steer me toward my capstone topic, and supposedly one of the best papers the professor had ever read. However, writing in that class was awful because he was such a stickler.

what was your subject if you don't mind me asking?

Burnout and compassion fatigue. I'm very proud of my capstone. :)

GCU is like any other brick and mortar school.. Every professor is going to care about certain things and have quirks. You just play their game and do what is important to them. I had some profs be very picky about DQ's and others didn't care as much. That is why you have to read the announcements.

Oh, I hate this. Every class there are a million questions....

"Do I turn it into Turnitin?"

"How many posts do I have to make?"

"Do I have to turn in my papers on time?"

Guys, we read doctor's orders all day that are written in ancient texts, we can read posted announcements for the class we are paying for......

Flame you are right! That is exactly what I 1st do...read the announcement and you 'll see what kind of professor you have

*shudder*

Nursing 429 question...

Hey, if anyone remembers (cause my teacher is probably not going to answer today and it is due tomorrow), the heritage asessment paper.... we are supposed to do the heritage assessment on 3 families then write a paper about applying the heritage assessment and the health culture of teh different families.

So we do the cultural assessment (a useless tool with no explanation on how to use it), find out about the health culture habits of most people of that culture, then interview the people we just gave the assessment to to see if they do those things too? Shouldn't there be some guidance about how to interview them? Am I missing something?

Apologies, I'm going to post this in both forums to see if I can get a response today.

I'm soon out the door..3 families...1 of those families can be urs...so 2 others...,,Looking quickly at it....follow the RUBRIC......those families should do the assessment...then based on their answers from that cultural assessment tool...write the paper.. Look over the Rubric...bit more clear than the instructions
