Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews

Nursing Students School Programs Nursing Q/A

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

Thanks I found it. My instructor for health assessment is posted. Anyone to avoid for that class?

Hi, I am an RN too looking into going to GCU, but would like to finish in less than the traditional years. HOw long did your program take? My agreement is saying that it takes months to complete the program, is this correct?

Hi deimysvigilRN, well... that depends. First, you'd have to know how many classes you are required, and that comes after they evaluate your transcripts. Traditionally there are 12 core classes (those can be found on the GCU website), but some of us required fewer (10 or 11) based on something previously taken that fills the requirement. Then there are some that although they only need 10 or 11 of the core-12, for some reason they still have to take 2 electives (it's debatable if those can be tested out of or not). But, the majority of us here are doing the 12, and as each class is 5 weeks long, there's the math as far as how long your program would be. That's if you do them back to back; some people like to take breaks in between, but some people tend to either double up 2 at a time or just overlap the last week of this one with the first week of the next one. The doubling/overlapping can't start until after class 4 though, I guess they want to make sure you're a decent student and can handle it before they give you the go-ahead to make yourself crazy LOL. It's a very flexible program, do what works for you, as long or as short as you want to make it. Depends on how much time you want to devote to your head stuck in a laptop vs. raising kiddos and actually having a job and a life!

Very flexible! I started Sep 2013.....most of my group are down...I'm a slacker and took nearly 6 months off.....so double up right after the 4th class and get it over with ASAP. If ur a strong writer and researcher, you can really zip thru it!!

If you have the 12 core classes, no doubling the first 4 (20 weeks), cannot double during Capstone (5 weeks), that leaves you with 7 (20 weeks - because one of those classes you cannot double) for a grand total of 35 weeks --- almost 9 months, unless you are on over Christmas break (add 2 weeks), and that would take you to 9 months and a week.

That made my head hurt.:woot:

So I was going through the old posts looking for stuff about my health assessment class. I came across a post about doing a PP based on a movie character's diagnosis. So apparently someone did a PP on The Mask with Jim Carry, mistaking it for The Mask with Eric Stoltz. I can't stop laughing.

Want I want to know is, what was Jim Carry's diagnosis? LOL

Stats went great once I learned about the You-Tube videos and got some help from the online tutors! Passed with an A :)

Heaney, I just finished statistics today, I am at an A now but without the last weeks grades in yet. Those Youtube videos were helpful but I got a tutor a few times to help. They DQs were awful because I never had anything to say about it. Now I am starting Spirituality and this instructor I have, says she is a student at GCU doing a dissertation. I don't know if that is good or bad for me, or get another instructor...

If I wasn't so swamped I would suggest let's do a group CLC and figure one out, but I am forewarning everyone I stunk at psych. Oh, and I nominate Prism to be group leader. :cheeky:

Good Job! :) That is a tough one...I have never had a student as a teacher, so not sure how to answer. I can PM you my instructor for Spirituality if you want, he is pretty fair.

Second that nomination...... I am going to lay low now so that she does the work for me and I still get my 87%......
