So I am a bit down in the dumps. I just came to the realization that I began Excelsior over 1yr ago and I have only gotten as far as NC #3. I have postponed NC#4 since May. The funny thing is is that it is Cardiac/Resp. and I work ER! The thing that scares me about it is the cancer section and I know NOTHING about cancer (other than I constantly apply sunscreen for fear that my pasty white skin will somehow develop some melanoma!) I have the NC #4 scheduled for the beginning of december. It's just a bummer cause all of my girlfriends that I went to LPN school with now have their RN's and I am just feeling a little left out!:(

From one pasty white girl to another, get your behind in gear and study! :) You can do this. Once you learn the abnormal cell growth stuff, NC4 will be not so scary. What are you using to study? Textbook? Notes?

From another pasty white girl, red hair, freckles, etc....GET ON WITH IT!!!

If I remember correctly, Abnormal Cellular Growth is 50% of NC4. Get some study guides like studygroup101 on ebay or Lisa Arends on ebay, and just memorize the basics. You already know the cardiac stuff from the ER. Abnormal Cellular was not that difficult. Basic cancer stuff like s/s, meds and s/e, emotional issues r/t tx, therapeutic communication r/t tx. Remember you only need a C to pass.

I hated onc, too. But y'know what? C = NC4 done. Just get going and do it. I found for me that I HAD to shcedule the exam or I would let it go.

A lot of pasty white girls around here. LOL! I am also. I,too have a few freckles, and red hair to boot. So it that the criteria to get Ms. Erlissy up and running? Hey! YOU CAN and WILL DO THIS! Sue and Lunah put the heat under me...(just kidding) They are Awesome! Anyway...I have done NC7,NC1,NC3 and NC4. I was going to take NC5 11/24 and NC6 12/20, but I saw how much info. was on NC5 I decided to schedule it for 12/20 and NC6 1/23...This way I can hopefully enjoy a taste of the holidays. Anyway...NC4 was my scariest one so far. I was freaking out, and people were telling me it was not as bad as they had thought it would be, but for some reason it was the one that I felt I could have had a mini melt down over. I Passed it with a B on 10/29. You will too. Just open your mind(and books) AND GET THAT BUTT in GEAR. LOL! WE WILL DO THIS...WHY? BECAUSE WE CAN!!! Traci

well, I am feeling a little bit better about myself. I did get some major studying done today. I was so upset last night that I ended up with a major headache...and nothing OTC would touch it...so I finally fell asleep at 2am and had to be up at 8am! I just felt like I wasn't getting much support from work ("when are you going to have your RN??") and the hubby just wants that extra money! I really do just want to be done. I have been working FOREVER at this whole nursing thing. My goal was to be done by the time I was 30 (coming up in July!) but that isn't going to pan out. But (!!) I WILL be done by Jan 2010!!

Erlissy,

Hey! You are much younger than I. I just turned 42, and many say I am much younger than they are. Age is not really an issue. You are going to get older either way...Might as well become what you want to be, instead of saying, oh I am too old now. You are never too old. A lady in my LVN class was fixing to turn 60 when we graduated. She was my study buddy and is a very good nurse. She is 67 now and does not plan on retiring anytime soon. I work with a nurse at the present and she is a young 72. Anyway...I am glad you got some studying done, and you will be done before you know it. Do you have any Gen. Ed's left? Hope you are feeling better today. Traci

I took my CPNE the weekend of my 36th birthday. :) So yeah, while it would have been nice to be done with this when I was younger, it didn't happen! I wasn't even a paramedic until I had just turned 31.

Raggedy,

I have everything done except for the rest of the NC's. Thanks for the encouragement. It's good to have a place to come to when the rest of your friend and family have no idea!:redpinkhe

Erlissy, maybe we will be close to the same timeframe. I am hoping to be CPNE Eligible in late Feb. Hope to take the CPNE early fall 09. Who knows? Good luck to you! We can encourage each other. That really helps. Traci

Spend some time learning the hematology stuff as well, if that is not your forte. Hem/onc stuff wasn't my biggest fear--it was the cardiorespiratory stuff. I yawn over that. This NC is a good one for the practice tests to gauge where you are. You'll be RNing soon like your former classmates. :)
